A billion text messages

On Wednesday, federal regulators approved a plan to create a national alert (the alert system appears and is sent to mobile phones via SMS).

In recent years, the popularity of SMS has soared, especially among young people. The CTIA Wireless Industry Association estimates that more than 48 billion text messages are sent every month.

This plan comes from the warning and early warning response of network behavior. In 2006, federal law required the improvement of the national emergency alarm system. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), a behavioral task, uses new methods to alert the public to events.

Participating in the alarm system of the operator-telecom company is voluntary, but it has received a solid foundation from the wireless industry.

This program will be used by temporary mobile phone users. They may not get the alarm.

According to the rules, there will be three different types of information.

The first is the president's vigilance, which may include terrorist attacks or natural disasters. The second involves "imminent threats", which may include natural disasters (such as hurricanes or storms or even university shootings). The third one will be used for child kidnapping (kidnapping emergency, so-called amber alert).
