Zhai Gong of Kaifeng once served as a court captain. When he was in office, the number of guests who came to visit his home was so crowded that the courtyard was filled. Later, he was dismissed from office, and no guests came to visit him anymore. As a result, the entrance was so deserted that a net could be set up to catch birds. The officialdom was subject to change. After a period of time, Official Zhai was reinstated. So, that group of guests wanted to visit him again. Zhai Gong was filled with emotion and wrote a few words on the door: "Life and death are the basis for friendship; poverty and wealth are friendship; friendship is friendship between noble and humble."
