Han Introduction to the Mountain Temple

Hanshan Temple is located in Gusu District, Suzhou. It was established in the Southern Dynasties (502-519 AD) during the reign of Liang Xiaotian Jian. The original name is "Miaoliping Pagoda". Hanshan Temple covers an area of ??about 13,000 square meters, with a construction area of ??more than 3,400 square meters.

Hanshan Temple belongs to the Linji sect of Zen Buddhism. During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, two famous monks at that time, Hanshan and Xiqian, founded Hanshan Temple. Hanshan Temple was destroyed by fire five times (once said it was seven times) in more than 1,000 years, and was last rebuilt during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. Hanshan Temple was once one of the top ten famous temples in China. There are many historical relics in the temple, including Zhang Shishi's stone carvings, stone statues found in Hanshan, and fragments of Wen Zhengming and Tang Yin's inscriptions.

Most of the main halls of Hanshan Temple are Qing Dynasty buildings, including the Mahatma Hall, Sutra Library, Bell Tower, Stele Gallery, Fengjiang Tower, Shuangzhong Pavilion, etc. The architectural layout of Hanshan Temple does not have a strict central axis. The ancient stone arch bridge in front of the gate of Hanshan Temple is Jiangcun Bridge, and the pile of yellow walls between the bridge and the gate is called Zhaobi.

There are two long stone sculptures embedded on both sides of the flower bed on the left side of the main garden of Hanshan Temple. One of them is the "Hanji" carved during the Chongzuo period of the Ming Dynasty; in the late Qing Dynasty, Jiangsu Governor Cheng Dequan inscribed "Miao Li Zongfeng" . After leaving the Main Hall, on the left is the Puming Pagoda connected to the abbot's room, and on the right is the bell tower famous for listening to the midnight bell. The two-story building in front is a sutra pagoda.
