Suzhou Hanshan Temple

Introduction to Hanshan Temple Hanshan Temple is located in gusu district, Suzhou. It was built in the period of Liang Xiao Tian Jian in the Southern Dynasties (502-519), and was originally named "Miaoli Pingta". Hanshan Temple covers an area of about10.3 million square meters, with a construction area of more than 3,400 square meters.

Hanshan Temple belongs to Lin Ji School of Zen. During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, Hanshan Temple was founded by two eminent monks, Hanshan and Xiqian. During the period of 1000, Hanshan Temple was destroyed by fire for five times (seven times), and the last reconstruction was in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty. Hanshan Temple was once one of the top ten famous temples in China in history. There are many historical sites in the temple, including the stone carvings of Zhang Jishi, the stone statues of Hanshan and the inscriptions of Wen Zhiming and Tang Yin.

Hanshan Temple was mostly built in Qing Dynasty, mainly including Daxiong Hall, Tibetan Scripture Building, Bell Tower, Monument Gallery, Fengjiang Building and Frost Bell Pavilion. The architectural layout of Hanshan Temple has no strict central axis. The ancient stone arch bridge in front of the gate of Hanshan Temple is Jiangcun Bridge, and the pile of yellow walls between the bridge embankment and the gate is called Zhaobi.

There are two long stone carvings embedded in the flower bed on the left side of the main garden of Hanshan Temple. One is the "cold trace" carved during the Chongji period in the Ming Dynasty. Another moment in the late Qing Dynasty, Cheng Dequan, the governor of Jiangsu Province, wrote Miao Li Zongfeng. Out of the Ursa Major Hall, on the left is the Puming Pagoda connected with the abbot's room, and on the right is the bell tower famous for listening to the midnight bell. The two-story house in front is the Buddhist Scripture Building.
