The skylight of a car used to be the dream of many riders. I thought that one day, on a cloudless night in Wan Li, I could drive and blow the night breeze to the suburbs far away from the city's light pollution, and open the skylight to search for "nonsense" from outer space. Now the larger panoramic sunroof has become the standard for many new energy vehicles.

Although the skylight of the car may not be opened often, it needs to be well maintained, otherwise it may leak in the rainy season!

Why does the skylight leak?

In fact, no matter how sealed the skylight is, when the rainstorm comes, the skylight will also be infiltrated by rain. It's just that the water that seeps in will flow out of the drain hole of the skylight instead of entering the car. There are two sliding rails on the left and right sides of the skylight, which can slide back and forth. The front, back, left and right corners of the slide rail are provided with drainage holes of the skylight, and a water guide groove is connected between the two drainage holes. When the rain falls on the skylight, it will first flow into the water guide tank, then flow into the drainage holes on both sides, and then pass through the drainage pipes connected with the drainage holes, passing through the A-pillar and C-pillar of the car, and then be diverted to the fenders of the front and rear tires by the drainage pipes for discharge.

How to deal with skylight failure

1. The drain pipe is blocked. If water seepage is found in the skylight joint, it is probably because the drain of the skylight is blocked. If the drainage hole of the vehicle is designed to be small, then a little impurity or sediment can easily block the drainage hole.

Fine iron wire or soft and tough metal wire can be used to dredge the drainage hole. After dredging, pour the water into the diversion channel to see if the water can flow out of the fender. If you can, it means that the dredging is successful.

How to prevent the skylight drain pipe from blocking? You can try to pour water into the skylight drainage hole every once in a while to see if the water flow is smooth. If it is blocked, clear it in time.

When parking outdoors, you should also pay attention to cleaning up the leaves and berries on the roof, especially near the skylight drainage hole.

2. The drain pipe or sealing strip is aged and damaged. If water seepage is found in the A-pillar or C-pillar of the vehicle, it is likely that the hose at the skylight outlet or joint is broken, so it is necessary to remove the interior and replace it with a new drainage hose. It is recommended to go to a professional repair shop for maintenance.

In addition to the problem of drainage pipe, the rubber sealing strip at the edge of skylight is also prone to aging and fracture, which leads to the decline of sealing performance of skylight. Replace the new sealing strip in time.

Daily maintenance method of skylight

1. Pay attention to the waterproof of the skylight. The skylight is mainly sealed by the rubber sealing ring around the skylight. In the process of automobile use, attention should be paid to the dust prevention of the sealing ring, especially after winter or long-distance driving, and proper cleaning should be carried out to remove dust.

When the weather is cold in winter, the skylight may be frozen by snow and ice. At this time, the sunroof cannot be forcibly opened to avoid motor damage.

2. If necessary, close the sunroof. When driving on bumpy roads, it is recommended not to fully open the sunroof. If the vibration between the skylight and the slide rail is too large, it may cause deformation and abnormal noise of related components, and even damage the motor.

3. Pay attention to sealing. In the process of cleaning the vehicle, avoid washing the sealing ring around the skylight glass directly with a high-pressure water gun to prevent the sealing ring from deforming under the impact of high-pressure water column, which will lead to the decline of sealing performance.

4. Pay attention to lubrication and corrosion protection. In daily use of vehicles, the skylight track and sealing ring should be cleaned regularly. If you hear noise when you open the sunroof, it may be that the lubricant of the slide rail has failed. You can buy a bottle of special skylight rail grease and coat it on the slide rail. At the same time, you can also buy a can of rubber protective agent and spray it on the adhesive tape, or spray it on a towel to rub it on the adhesive tape to prevent the adhesive tape from being corroded.

5. Use neutral detergent. When cleaning the sundries on the skylight, clean them with a soft cloth and neutral detergent.

6. Check for foreign objects. Before the rainy season comes, it is necessary to check whether the skylight drainage is smooth, clean up foreign bodies such as dust and fallen leaves in time, and clean the water guide tank to prevent the skylight drainage hole from being blocked.
