The cry of 90 years ago tore up the feudal dream of old China for more than 2,000 years like a thunderbolt. On May 4, 90 years ago, a group of young students with boiling blood and indignation took to the streets of Beijing, the ancient capital, holding high the banner of democracy and science and the slogan of "fighting for national prestige abroad and punishing traitors at home". For a time, the north and south of the great river, inside and outside the Great Wall responded, and the vigorous anti-imperialist patriotic struggle changed from a single spark to a prairie fire. In this movement, the people of the whole country are United, and * * * played a heroic song of the times. This anti-imperialist patriotic movement, with young students as the mainstay, is the first complete great struggle against imperialism and feudalism in the history of China, which goes down in history together with the great starting point of China's new-democratic revolution. The May 4th patriotic movement promoted the new awakening of China people. Advanced young people see more clearly that the fate of the country is in jeopardy, and feel that the status quo of corruption and dark society is unbearable. They take saving the country and the people and transforming society as their own responsibility, and actively explore ways to save the country and the people. The May 4th Movement promoted the spread of Marxism in China, promoted the combination of Marxism and the workers' movement, prepared ideological and cadre conditions for the establishment of China's * * * production party, and opened up a new road for the development of China's history in the 20th century. It was from the May 4th Movement that the people of China chose Marxism. Marxism does not bind people's thoughts. On the contrary, it is through studying and applying Marxism that China people's thoughts have been liberated in a wider scope and to a deeper extent. The spread of Marxism in China and its continuous development in combination with China's reality have become the mainstream of scientific and democratic spirit since the May 4th Movement. Times are changing, but the May 4th spirit with patriotism, progress, democracy and science as its core will never change. The noble patriotic sentiments and sincere national feelings of the May 4th youth, and the spirit of brave sacrifice for national independence and rejuvenation still have profound practical significance today. At present, China has entered a new stage of building a well-off society in an all-round way and accelerating socialist modernization. At this time, it is the 90th anniversary of the May 4th Movement. It is our responsibility and mission to continue to inherit the fine tradition of the May 4th Movement, carry forward the spirit of the May 4th Movement, and further promote the harmonious development of economy and society and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
