5G empowerment, inserting "digital wings" for the Winter Olympics

As the venue for the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, the Bird's Nest has achieved full coverage of 5G through careful planning and deployment by China Unicom.

At the opening ceremony, China Unicom's 5G network met the needs of nearly 40,000 live audiences and cast members to send and receive short videos, video calls and live broadcasts online, and also met the needs of off-site audiences for immersive live broadcast experience.

In addition, after six months of preparation and hundreds of hours of testing, the fireworks support team of China Unicom has been on duty for 64 hours during the four all-factor drills and formal support of the opening ceremony. The mobile network team innovatively adopted eight "black technologies", such as distributed large-scale antenna technology, space-frequency multidimensional 5G capability fusion, carrier aggregation, integrated SA network, 5G slicing, cell merging, intelligent dynamic beam and large uplink, to build an advanced 5G network covering extreme capacity for the Bird's Nest, and the 5G capability was improved by more than 20 times compared with 4G.

The Winter Olympics, the world's top event, is not only an arena for athletes, but also a showcase for cool "black technology".

With the rapid development of information and communication technology, especially the deep integration of 5G, IPv6+ and other technologies with the Winter Olympics, wisdom elements can be seen everywhere in Olympic-related fields.

For example, China Unicom's 5G+4K/8K ultra HD live broadcast brought a beautiful visual feast for the opening ceremony to the audience; IPv6+ technology was applied to the Winter Olympics for the first time, which realized one-click opening and plug-and-play of media services and provided a good access environment for the media.
