What festival is Holy Day?

Holy Day is an important festival in Islam to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

Holy day, also known as sacred taboo day, is called "Maulud" in Arabic. According to legend, Muhammad's birth and death were in March 12. In order to commemorate the Prophet Muhammad's revival of Islam, Muslims held religious gatherings on his birthday and death, which gradually evolved into one of the three major religious festivals in Islam.

According to legend, Prophet Muhammad was born in a declining aristocratic family of Gulaish tribe in Mecca, Arabia, on March 5 1 year BC 12, and was named Muhammad. He died in Medina on March 1 1 year, at the age of 63.

Since Muhammad's birth and death happened on March 12 of the Islamic calendar, Muslims in China used to commemorate his birth and death together, collectively referred to as "Hadith" or "taboo". Foreign Muslims generally only celebrate the "holy day", that is, birthdays, and know little about the date of death.

Muslims attach importance to the holy day only to commemorate the messenger prophet and praise Muhammad's virtue and historical achievements, and will never forget the Koran teachings he conveyed.

China Hui Muslims are the main ethnic groups celebrating the Holy Day. However, among Hui Muslims, the content and form of festivals are also very different.

On the Muslim holy day in southwest China, we should first go to the mosque to recite scriptures, praise the saints and listen to the life story of the prophet Muhammad, and then invite Muslim compatriots from all directions to share the Eucharist. However, in the past, some Muslims in East China would go to church the night before going to the mosque to recite scriptures and praise the saints. Then, hang lanterns and colorful decorations, and hang slogans and banners at the entrance of the mosque, the main hall and the surrounding area. The next day, a formal rally was held in memory of the Prophet Muhammad.

Muslims in northwest China focus on commemorating the death of the Prophet Muhammad when celebrating the Holy Day. Its form is like that of the Han people in the Central Plains celebrating the anniversary of the death of the deceased. They collectively recited the poem "Muhammad" in memory of the Prophet Muhammad, with melodious and graceful tone and full of sadness.
