What kind of socks do you wear to keep warm in winter?

-Cotton-

Generally, we like to choose pure cotton socks, but is pure cotton 100% cotton? The answer given by socks experts is no, that is to say, there are no socks with 100% cotton content. If the composition of a pair of socks is 100% cotton content, then this is not a pair of socks, but a ball of cotton! And it is completely inelastic! 100% cotton socks are particularly shrunk and not strong and durable. So, in a word, 100% cotton socks are not called cotton socks, but cotton.

Usually socks with cotton content above 75% can become pure cotton socks, and socks with cotton content above 85% are very high-grade cotton socks. In addition to cotton, cotton socks need to add some functional fibers to maintain the elasticity, fastness and comfort of socks. Spandex, nylon, acrylic fiber and polyester are very common functional fibers. So socks containing these functional fibers are not good socks.

cotton combing

Combed cotton is a long and neat cotton fiber left by a machine called comber after removing the shorter fibers from ordinary fibers. Due to the removal of short cotton fibers and other fiber impurities, the cotton yarn produced by combed cotton spinning is more delicate, and the finished product feels smoother and more comfortable, which belongs to middle and high-grade cotton products.

Mercerized cotton

Mercerized cotton refers to the cotton fiber mercerized by ordinary cotton fiber in concentrated alkali solution. This kind of cotton fiber has better gloss, luster and less wrinkles than ordinary cotton fiber without changing other physical indexes. Usually in summer, you can often see the material of mercerized cotton in thin socks.

spandex

Spandex, commonly known as elastic fiber, has high elasticity and flexibility. Its stretching length can reach 5-7 times of the original fiber, and the textile products added with spandex can maintain the original contour. If the composition of socks contains spandex, it can make socks elastic and flexible, easier to wear, closer to the feet, and can tightly wrap the feet like a swimsuit without slipping off.

Lycra

Lycra is actually a kind of spandex fiber, which is a unique artificial elastic fiber invented and produced by DuPont Company in the United States in 1958. It can be mixed with various artificial and natural fibers and processed into various types of clothing, and its extraordinary stretching and recovery performance greatly increases the color of all fabrics. In common parlance, Lycra is spandex. Lycra is different from traditional elastic fiber, its extensibility can reach 500% and it can be restored to its original state. In other words, this kind of fiber is very easy to stretch, but after recovery, it can cling to the surface of human body and has little binding force on human body. Lycra fiber can be matched with any fabric, including wool, linen, silk and cotton, which increases the close-fitting, elastic, relaxed and natural characteristics of the fabric and makes it feel more flexible when moving. And Lycra is different from most spandex yarns. It has a special chemical structure, and it will not grow mildew in a hot and humid closed space after being wetted.

Lycra is called "friendly" fiber, not only because it can be completely blended with natural and man-made fibers, but also because it can increase the comfort, corset, freedom of movement and service life of fabrics or clothes.
