The Kubuqi Desert is located in Hangjin Banner, Ordos, Inner Mongolia. It is the seventh largest desert in China and the desert closest to Beijing. It was once the main source of sandstorms in Beijing and surrounding areas. Research on desertification control in Kubuqi has been carried out as early as the 1950s, but there has been no obvious control effect for many years.

It was not until 2011 that the "sand-light complementary" project of Inner Mongolia Elion Resources Group and Chint Group started here, and Kubuqi's desert management was finally on the right track. According to Xu Shenghu, the person in charge of the Chint New Energy Kubuqi Power Station project, the project completely rents unused wasteland from farmers for construction and adopts a five-in-one composite ecological solar desertification control system of "desertification control + grass planting + breeding + power generation + poverty alleviation". model. Last year, the project achieved full grid-connected power generation.

The photovoltaic power station constructed in the Kubuqi Desert has an installed capacity of 310MW. The project has a greening and sand fixation project of 1,500 acres and a total investment of 2 billion yuan. Last year, the Kubuqi photovoltaic power station project generated more than 550 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, which is equivalent to saving about 103,300 tons of standard coal, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 286,100 tons, reducing sulfur dioxide emissions by about 9,390 tons, and reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by about 4,695 tons. It reduced dust emissions by approximately 85,000 tons, saved 563,400 tons of water, and increased the proportion of renewable energy to 2%.

Xu Chenghu, project leader of Chint New Energy’s Kubuqi Power Station, introduced that the Kubuqi Power Station project has become a very representative local poverty alleviation project. Since the project was put into operation, “photovoltaic module cleaning + board” has been fully launched. "Planting and Maintenance" precision poverty alleviation project, investing nearly 2 million yuan every year to carry out poverty alleviation for farmers, herdsmen and poor households in Duguitala Town, Hangjin Banner. The poor households participating in the poverty alleviation project were lifted out of poverty within one year and continued to increase their income.

"The long-term benefits have three aspects. The first is the land used for project construction, which mainly gives farmers' land. Second, during the construction period of our project, we can hire more than 800 households for poverty alleviation companies and provide more than 1,000 jobs. Each household has an annual income increase of more than 10,000. The third is that the project requires chickens. Since 2017, we have launched a precision poverty alleviation model of photovoltaic module cleaning and under-panel planting and maintenance. The surrounding poor farmers and herdsmen contracted the module cleaning and under-panel planting. , each household contracts 4 to 8 MW per year, and each household earns approximately 35,000 yuan.”

Based on the successful completion and stable operation of the 310MW photovoltaic power station project, Xu Chenghu said, The project plans to build a 1,000MW composite ecological solar energy project, including 900MW of photovoltaic power generation and 100MW of photothermal power generation. The total project investment is about 11 billion yuan, and the desertification control area will reach 100,000 acres.

"All 1,000MW have been built, which can generate 1.5 billion in electricity per year. It will also drive the development of our planting, breeding, tourism and poverty alleviation industries. The economic benefits are relatively significant. We are ready to complete this construction goal in 2020. ”

Chint’s Kubuqi Desert Photovoltaic Power Station Project is adapted to local conditions and not only effectively manages the sandy land, but also brings new hope to the lives of farmers. Cold- and drought-tolerant plants such as licorice, flower sticks, sand rice, and satawang grow luxuriantly under the photovoltaic panels due to the reduction in evaporation. The ecology of photovoltaic areas in the desert has improved significantly.
