On May 2th, 1875, senior diplomats from 17 industrialized countries gathered in Paris and signed the Metric Convention, agreeing to use metric units of measurement to simplify trade, settlement and measurement between countries, and sketched out the direction and framework of future world measurement. At the same time, the International Bureau of Metrology (bipm) was established, which is responsible for keeping the meters, kilograms and the most important measurement units in the current International System of Units (si). A number of committees and working groups have also been established, some of which have existed so far and become the highest technical authority in the world metrology community. Today, 48 countries have signed this convention, including all major industrial countries. China signed the Metric Convention in the late 197s. The system of units of measurement has developed from the metric system to the current international system of units and has been widely accepted by all countries.

This is the origin of "World Metrology Day".
