When will carbon neutrality be achieved?

The goal of achieving carbon neutrality is 2060.

On September 22, 2020, the Chinese government proposed at the 75th United Nations General Assembly: “China will increase its nationally determined contributions, adopt more powerful policies and measures, and strive to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2030. China has officially announced that it will strive to achieve carbon peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. In addition, it also includes carbon dioxide, methane, hydrofluorocarbons, etc., which covers all greenhouse gases from carbon dioxide to non-carbon dioxide.

Global warming is the consequence of human behavior causing changes in the earth's climate. "Carbon" refers to natural resources composed of carbon elements such as oil, coal, and wood. "Carbon" is consumed more, and more "carbon dioxide", the culprit of global warming, is produced. With human activities, global warming is also changing (affecting) people's lifestyles and causing more and more problems.

In 2002, a 3,250-square-kilometer ice shelf in Antarctica fell off and melted away within 35 days; and according to the latest data from NASA, Greenland melts an average of 221 cubic kilometers of ice every year. The ice sheet has melted twice as much as it did in 1996.

The first way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is carbon sequestration and the second is carbon offset. Once CO2 emissions are completely eliminated, we can move into a net-zero carbon society. The carbon market is an important measure to achieve carbon neutrality. It refers to a major institutional innovation that uses market mechanisms to control and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote green and low-carbon development.

In 2021, relevant departments pointed out that we must do a solid job in carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, formulate an action plan to peak carbon emissions before 2030, and optimize the industrial structure and energy structure.

Industry, construction, and transportation are the main end-use energy consumption sectors in my country. The meeting proposed that green manufacturing should be promoted in the industrial sector, energy-saving standards should be improved in the construction sector, and green and low-carbon transportation methods should be accelerated in the transportation sector.
