How many airports are there in Chengdu?

There are seven airports in Chengdu, namely Shuangliu International Airport, Tianfu International Airport, Taiping Temple Airport, Wenjiang Airport, Phoenix Mountain Airport, Chongzhou Airport and Xinjin Airport. Shuangliu International Airport is a passenger airport, Taiping Temple Airport, Wenjiang Airport and Fenghuangshan Airport are military airports, and Chongzhou Airport and Xinjin Airport are teaching airports of Civil Aviation College.

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is the fifth largest airport in China, the top 40 busiest airports in the world, the busiest hub airport in central and western China, and the most important air passenger and cargo distribution center in southwest China. It is the residence of Southwest Civil Aviation Administration and Southwest Air Traffic Control Administration. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is the largest transit airport leading to Lhasa Gongga International Airport, Changdu Bangda Airport and Linzhi Milin Airport, and is the base airport of China International Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Chengdu Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Tibet Airlines and Xiang Peng Airlines.

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, located in jianyang city, Chengdu, about 50 kilometers away from the center of Chengdu, is a large-scale civil transportation hub airport project planned and constructed during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, and also a large-scale civil airport put into use in the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, which is an important support for the national strategy of the twin-city economic circle in Chengdu-Chongqing region. Positioning itself as a national international aviation hub and a high-grade airport in the Silk Road Economic Belt, responsible for all international routes departing from Chengdu, will build a world-class and domestic leading humanistic, intelligent and green airport. Chengdu Tianfu International Airport was officially put into operation on June 27th, 20021.

Xinjin Airport, located in Xinjin District, Chengdu, was built in 1928, and was designated as an air base after the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War. 1928, Liu, commander of the 24th Kuomintang Army, destroyed young crops 1000 mu in the old county of Xinjin District to build Xinjin Airport. The prototype of Xinjin Airport was established.

Chongzhou General Airport is an airport used by civil aircraft to engage in civil aviation activities other than public air transport.

Taiping Temple Airport, built in the middle of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, has a north-south runway with a main runway of 2,580m long and 45m wide, and an independent runway of 690m wide and 20m on the east. Shortly after the Wenchuan earthquake in May 2008 and the Yushu earthquake in April 20 10, Taiping Temple Airport became the main transit station for earthquake relief, transporting a large amount of materials to the people in the disaster areas.
