Jiangyin City, referred to as Cheng, is named after it is located on the "yin of the river". It is a modern riverside port garden city. Jiangyin is located in East China, the south of Jiangsu Province, and the northern end of the Taihu Plain in the Yangtze River Delta. It borders Zhangjiagang to the east, Wuxi to the south, Changzhou to the west, and Jingjiang to the north. Jiangyin is located at the throat of the Yangtze River. It is an important transportation hub in the north and south of the Yangtze River and a natural port for river, lake and sea combined transportation.

Jiangyin has a long history and a rich collection of humanities. It has 7,000 years of human life, 5,000 years of civilization, 3,800 years of city building, 2,500 years of written records, and 1734 years of county founding, which began in the Jin Dynasty.

Jiangyin originally belonged to Yanling, Wudi, and belonged to Changzhou in ancient times. It is now under the administrative jurisdiction of Wuxi City. Jiangyin is supported by mountains and rivers, with three Wus in its lap. It is located in the geometric center of the "Su-Wuxi-Changzhou" golden triangle, with the city and the river at the same time. It is known as "Yanling Ancient Town", "Chunshen Old Town" and "Furong City". In 2015, Jiangyin governed 3 streets, 10 towns, 2 economic development zones, and 1 national high-tech zone. The municipal government is located at No. 9 Chengjiang Middle Road.

Jiangyin has a developed private economy and strong manufacturing industry. It is the leader of the urban economy and is known as the "No. 1 Capital County in China" with 36 listed companies. In 2014, 11 companies in Jiangyin became "Top 500 Chinese Enterprises". It has won more than 150 national honors, including the first batch of national ecological cities, China's best economically dynamic and attractive city, China's top ten demonstration counties (cities) for comprehensive moderate prosperity, and the United Nations Human Settlements Environment Award. It has been ranked consistently in the national county economic basic competitiveness rankings. It has topped the list for twelve consecutive years.
