This area is a cultural area. A Little Square is planned between the business district and the cultural district, which is connected with the original square through a podium, thus expanding the leisure activity area.

The gymnasium should be properly remodeled. In terms of design, the new square will retain the rostrum and expand in its original position, expanding its scale and volume, making it more solemn and heroic, so as to meet the needs of political activities or group activities. The original squares, including the Gymnasium and Dongfanghong Shopping Mall, will be properly transformed to keep their functions as a space with leisure as the main body and equal emphasis on sports and commerce.

The design framework is mainly circular.

The design framework of the whole new square is shaped by a circle, which symbolizes the inclusiveness and diversity of Lanzhou culture through the combination of spatial sequences. The shape of the upper semicircle symbolizes that the sun in Ran Ran rises and never sets, symbolizing the vigorous development and endless life of Lanzhou. Sun's modeling also points out the theme of Dongfanghong Square.

Through the three levels of green space, annex and main building and the semi-circular shape of the main building, the image of ancient plush chairs and official hats is outlined, which means that mountains and rivers will last forever and talents will come forth in large numbers.

The overall layout is developed in the order of China's traditional axis. The meaning of the circular square not only resembles the ancient totem of China and the symbol of the Chinese nation-the dragon, but also coincides with the diversity and inclusiveness of Lanzhou culture.

Reflect the cultural characteristics of Lanzhou

Conceptual design describes the evolution of a culture and the inheritance of civilization. Lanzhou culture should be the fusion of Yellow River civilization, Silk Road culture and northwest customs. This design mainly reflects this integration through color, line and plane modeling.

The main color of the square is yellow, symbolizing the Yellow River and the northwest desert, dotted with green space, implying the sunrise and dense oasis in the desert, which has nurtured the great Chinese nation and the northwest people. Radial lines and commercial buildings reveal the opening history and commercial circulation history of the Silk Road, and also show the opening of Lanzhou today and the prosperity of the northwest commercial capital. The transformation of the annex building and the original square building below the main building used a large area of light blue and the shape of marine life, which showed that the Yellow River in Wan Li flowed into the sea and the Yellow River civilization was integrated into modern marine civilization, and revealed the contribution of the Yellow River civilization to marine civilization, its development and brilliant future.

The design is more humanized.

In this design, Qingyang Road Square is transformed into a sunken road, and the north and south squares are connected as a whole, which realizes the diversion of people and vehicles in the square, not only expands the square area, ensures the continuity of business, but also creates a safe, ecological and leisure living environment for the citizens. In detail, the new square provides more novel rest places for the elderly and children, and makes use of more water bodies (three large fountains are initially designed) to make the water-deficient city more moist, so that citizens can be hydrophilic, love the water and cherish water.

Green resources will be more abundant.

While meeting the functions of ventilation, fire fighting and transportation, the new square will open up as many green spaces as possible to improve the environment, and the radiated green spaces will enter the surrounding neighborhood units, enjoy the landscape greening and ecological water surface to the maximum extent, improve the utilization rate of green spaces, and let the citizens fully enjoy the rich green resources.
