Lu'an City is located in the west of Anhui Province, between the Yangtze and Huaihe Rivers, bordering the provincial capital Hefei City and Chaohu area to the east; Anqing area and Hubei Province's Yingshan and Luotian counties to the south; and Henan Province to the west. Shopping mall and Gushi are adjacent. Area: 17,976 square kilometers, population 7.048 million (2010).

According to the 1953 census in Lu'an City, there were 3,355,885 Han people in the city, accounting for 99.24% of the total population. There are 25,856 ethnic minorities, accounting for 0.76% of the total population, including 25,843 Hui, 6 Mongolian, 6 Manchu, and 1 Uyghur.

According to the 1982 census in Lu'an City, there were 550,625 Han people in the city, accounting for 99.35% of the total census population; 35,633 Hui people, accounting for 0.64%; and 271 people from other ethnic groups.

As of 2012, Lu'an City had a total population of 7.103 million, ranking second in the province. The population is mainly Han, and ethnic minorities account for 0.7%, with the majority being Hui.
