Ecological Environment of Poya Song

"Poya" is a poetic place name in Zhuang language, located in the mountainous area of Paiai Town in the upper reaches of Youjiang River at the junction of Yunnan and Guangxi, belonging to Funing County, Wenshan, Yunnan. Bao 'ai Town by Tuoniang River is not only the gateway of Yunnan to Guangdong and Guangxi, but also the "rich mining area" of Zhuang culture. In Zhuang language, "slope" means hillside, and "bud" is a shrub with small yellow flowers, commonly known as "yellow rice flower" or "Yang Mimi flower". When the yellow flowers are collected and boiled in boiling water, the yellow dyes needed by Zhuang people to make colorful glutinous rice can be obtained. "Slope bud" means "the place where mountain flowers bloom", and the village is named because it is located in "slope bud".

Xu Ge has a prosperous culture here, with as many as 20 kinds of Zhuang folk songs circulating from generation to generation. Even in Guangxi where Zhuang people live in compact communities, similar folk song cultural phenomena are rare. Poya village in the deep mountains is one of the best, exuding the glory of ancient civilization.

Here, the scenery is beautiful, the climate is mild, the rainfall is abundant, the trees are lush, the flowers are blooming, and the seasons are like spring. The ancestors of the Zhuang nationality were the earliest developers of this land, and this is one of the earliest areas where the Zhuang nationality bred rice culture. Long-term rice cultivation has honed the national character of the Zhuang people here, which is gentle and restrained, hard-working, brave and tenacious, United and helpful, and innovative, and created a rich and colorful national culture.

The ethnic customs here are strong. It happened to be the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month. The villagers took out homemade moon cakes to entertain my guests from afar ... It is this profound cultural soil that gave birth to Boya songs.

Funing County belongs to Wenshan Prefecture in the southeast of Yunnan, located in the Youjiang River basin in the upper reaches of the Pearl River at the junction of Yunnan and Guangxi, and adjacent to Vietnam. The beautiful scenery here used to be the former residence of the ancestors of the Zhuang nationality, and it was also the red roundabout of the Youjiang Uprising. Poya Village belongs to Baiaikou, and has been an important town in southwest China since ancient times (Fang Guili published a survey report on the languages in this area, 1944, 1957). It can go directly to Nanning by boat and is an important port for trade between Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan. Now the most striking slogan on the street of Funing County is: "Yunnan goes to sea from here". The Zhuang culture in Youjiang Valley is the most concentrated and distinctive, forming a self-contained national language and a national cultural system with "Na" culture as the core. Therefore, Funing Zhuang nationality is called "the living fossil of Baiyue nationality". It is in this cultural soil that Poya Songshu grew up, and the recorded Zhuang language is the same northern dialect of Zhuang language as Baise area.
