On September 3, 2020, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Ministry of Public Security jointly issued the Guiding Opinions on Applying the Self-defense System according to Law (hereinafter referred to as the Guiding Opinions). Adhering to the problem orientation, the Guiding Opinions comprehensively and systematically stipulated the correct application of the legitimate defense system in accordance with the law from three aspects: overall requirements, specific application and work requirements, which provided guidance for the "practical correction" of legitimate defense, and was of great significance for resolutely defending the spirit of the rule of law that "the law should not be allowed to be illegal", safeguarding citizens' legitimate defense rights according to law and promoting social integrity.
