The Historical Development of Marine Police

After more than 100 years of development, the Marine Police Headquarters of Hong Kong Police Force has become one of the largest and best-equipped maritime police forces in the world, with 2,523 police officers and 2 14 civilian staff. The Marine Region is headed by 65,438 commanders assisted by 65,438 deputy commanders. The Marine Police Region consists of five departments, namely Harbour Police Region, Marine Police Region, Operations Department, Support Department and Administration Department. At present, Hong Kong Marine Police owns 148 boats, including 6 divisional command boats, 27 divisional patrol boats, 30 inshore patrol boats, 65 small boats on board, 17 fast pursuit boats, 2 barges and 1 training ship, which governs nearly 2,960 square kilometers of waters within the 300-kilometer maritime boundary of Hong Kong, including 2,960 square kilometers. The main responsibilities are to maintain maritime safety in the jurisdiction, protect the safety of life and property, detect and prevent maritime crimes and crack down on smuggling crimes.
