Why did Tesla employees hold a large-scale rally to protest?

According to reports on October 25, Tesla employees and community members rallied to protest outside the company’s Fremont factory on Tuesday, claiming that Tesla unfairly fired many employees.

According to witnesses at the scene, Tesla employees held signs outside the factory while shouting slogans such as "Cars are not made automatically" and "Promoting a fair future."

Tesla recently laid off hundreds of employees because their performance failed to meet standards. However, some Tesla employees said that the layoffs of these employees had nothing to do with their performance, but because Tesla wanted to lay off employees in disguise. Tesla firmly denied this accusation, but this was not recognized by the fired Tesla employees.

It is reported that those who gathered on Tuesday included Alameda County Official Richard Valle, Maria Noel Fernandez from the non-profit organization Silicon Valley Rising, Alameda Dax County Labor Council member and numerous former Tesla employees. The group organizing the protest included the international union, the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Workers of America.

In addition to protesting outside the factory, people also rallied inside the showroom of Tesla's Fremont factory.

Tesla confirmed earlier this month that it had informed hundreds of employees that they would be fired, but said it was only part of the company's annual performance review and The company will continue to hire employees. Tesla said that most of the employees laid off this time were from management and sales positions.

Former Tesla employee Mike Williams said he was fired by Tesla despite recent performance reviews showing "continued strong" performance.

"After five years with this company, I was fired without any explanation...I don't think I was fired for performance reasons," he said.

Employees protesting in the showroom

At the rally, Alameda County official Val shouted to the crowd: "Today, we are demanding that an important employer in Alameda County - Special Tesla is seriously considering the impact of hundreds of layoffs on our community, and we are concerned that those who have been laid off include those who have provided input to the company and who we believe should be reinstated.”

In response to Tuesday's protest, a Tesla spokesperson sent an emailed statement to the media. The company said: "At Tesla, we strive to be a fair and equitable company. This is the only goal we pursue. At Tesla Alas, no one is being punished for wanting to unionize. Some employees have recently left Tesla, but what the media hasn’t reported is that many more — 17% of the total workforce — have been promoted. More than half of our promotions occur at our Fremont facility. We are a company based on merit and work. It’s not surprising that union supporters protest our decisions, including this one, and we respect their right to do so. ."

Tesla has 33,000 employees worldwide, including 10,000 employees at the Fremont factory. Currently, Tesla is working hard to increase production capacity in order to bring the highly anticipated Model 3 car to the market on time.

The workers are very united and can unite for the sake of their own interests and face the problems together.
