Brief introduction of farmers' prints in Qijiang

Qijiang farmers' prints originated from woodcut New Year pictures in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and their works are based on the production and life practice of farmers. On the basis of simply imparting painting techniques, they absorbed a large number of local folk art techniques, such as wood carving, stone carving, cloth sticking, flower picking, woodcut New Year pictures, paper cutting, blue printed cloth, etc., which were widely circulated among the people and had a strong national folk custom and life flavor. The works highlight the artistic effects of simplicity, childishness, exaggeration and romance, and have high artistic value.

Qijiang peasant painting rose in the 1980s. In the new era, peasant paintings absorb, digest and inject new painting elements with the artistic language of folk art, such as picture composition, character modeling, expression techniques and color application. Through continuous exploration, selection and creation, peasant paintings have achieved greater success. This period is also the first heyday in the history of farmers' printmaking in Qijiang. 1985 Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture, Provincial Artists Association and Chongqing Municipal Government awarded Qijiang County the title of "Hometown of Farmers' Printmaking"; 1Feb. 988, the Ministry of Culture of China named Qijiang County as "the hometown of modern folk painting in China".

Today in 2 1 century, farmers' prints in Qijiang bring forth the old and bring forth the new, and a new generation of farmers' print writers thrive, which adds fuel to the development of farmers' prints and gives new vitality to ancient folk art. With the joint efforts of two generations of farmers' print artists, farmers' prints in Qijiang have flourished from individual farmers' print studio to the establishment of Qijiang farmers' print academy, from grassroots Wenhua to becoming a business card for Chongqing's foreign cultural exchange.
