The School of Physical Education of Putian University was formed in 2003 by the merger of the former Department of Physical Education of Putian University and the former Putian Overseas Chinese Physical Education Normal School. The earliest establishment time of its physical education specialty can be traced back to Putian Normal School founded in 1985. On June 20 13, the School of Physical Education of Putian University was established.

The Institute of Physical Education is located in the south campus of Putian University and has 12 indoor sports ground. There are plastic track and field (including natural lawn football field), swimming pool, basketball court, tennis court and other outdoor sports venues; There are 5 laboratories, 1 microteaching training room and reference room.

The college has two majors (including cooperation between Fujian and Taiwan), namely, physical education department, leisure sports department, practice teaching center and university sports department. It consists of theoretical teaching and research section, track and field teaching and research section, ball teaching and research section, dancing teaching and research section, leisure sports teaching and research section and university sports teaching and research section. There are more than 560 full-time students at school.
