Since the outbreak of classical swine fever in Africa, the disadvantages and problems of pig industry have been further exposed. During this period, the production capacity has dropped sharply, the price of meat has soared, and it is a problem for ordinary people to eat meat. The whole industry is extremely fragile, and there is great pressure to stabilize production and supply.

Through a series of policy guidance, financial support, financial escort and other means, by the end of last year, the pig production capacity had recovered to more than 92% before the occurrence of African swine fever, exceeding the expectation of 12 percentage points. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs predicts that in March this year, the pig production capacity will increase by about 40% compared with the same period of last year, and the pig stock will return to the normal level of 20 17 by June. In the second half of the year, the supply of live pigs and pork will gradually return to normal levels.

The recently released No.1 Document of the Central Committee (202 1) has pointed out the direction for the development of pig industry this year. The document pointed out: this year, we should "accelerate the construction of modern breeding system, ensure the basic production capacity of pigs, and improve the long-term mechanism for the stable and orderly development of the pig industry."

It can be seen that Document No.1 clearly points out that for the pig industry, we should not only focus on the current recovery, but also focus on long-term stable production, treat both the symptoms and the root causes, so as to make the pig industry develop steadily, healthily and sustainably.
