Overview of Zhuangyuanzhou

Zhuangyuanzhou is a scenic spot in Liling City, Hunan Province. It has always been one of the eight scenic spots in Liling and is called "Zhuangyuanfangzhou". Located in the Lujiang River, the island is spindle-shaped, about 500 meters long and 100 meters wide. It was a vegetable garden in the Ming Dynasty and a mulberry garden in the Qing Dynasty. In 1925 AD, the Lujiang Bridge was completed and an approach bridge was built to connect it to the island. It is said that there was an ancient prophecy in Liling that said, "If the island passes in front of the county gate, Liling will produce the number one scholar", so it was named "Zhuang Yuanzhou". Unfortunately, Liling has never produced the number one scholar. In the Ming and Tang Dynasties, Yinyou wrote a poem about Zhuangyuanzhou: "Bi Peak stands slanting in the middle of the Lujiang River, with two cultural lights in the blue sky. The smoke of tingcao contains the green of the palace, and the light of the flowers on the bank reflects the red of the apricot garden. Complimenting the outstanding talents in their light years, ** * This is the day when the Xiangchang period comes. Ancient prophecies will surely answer the question. When will thunder and lightning rise? "The original couplet on the state says: "There is a boat beside Zhuangyuan Island, but the boat cannot travel on the island; maples grow on the Wenbi Peak, and the maples move on the peak. Don't move." (Zhuangyuanzhou, Wenbi Peak and Lujiang Bridge are all Liling's scenic spots). In the 1980s, Zhuangyuan Pavilion was built in Zhouwei.

Zhuangyuanzhou is located in Lushui River in Liling City, and is connected to the Lujiang Bridge by a cross bridge. In the early Ming Dynasty, it was a vegetable garden and later it was a testing ground for martial arts horses. At the end of Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, it was turned into a mulberry garden. After the stone arch bridge was completed, it was built as a park. When the Great Revolution failed, Zhuangyuanzhou was the execution ground where the reactionaries of the National Development Party killed communists and revolutionaries. In September 1930, after the Red Front Army attacked Changsha, on its way back to southern Jiangxi, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Peng Dehuai and others led their troops to rest in Liling. The headquarters was located in the Zhuangyuanzhou Yuanqiao Office. Mao Zedong also attended the meeting of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China’s Special Committee for East Hunan. Slogans written by the Red Army are preserved on the wooden wall panels on the third floor.
