What is the living standard like in Wuxi?

I am a foreigner and have been working and living in Wuxi for 15 years.

Wuxi is located in the center of Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou, the midpoint of Shanghai-Nanjing, and the center of the Yangtze River Delta. It has convenient transportation and developed urban and rural public transportation; the subway was completed and put into operation in 2014.

Wuxi has mountains (Huishan and Xishan) and water (Taihu Lake and Canal). The best places are Taihu Lake and Lihu Lake. Rich people will have a villa there. The most lively places are on Jiefang Ring Road or the inner circle of the ancient canal, with Sanyang Square and Chong'an Temple in the center.

Wuxi is developing rapidly and has a developed economy; living standards can be high or low, and consumption can be high or low, depending on the individual.

House price: Compared with Shanghai, Nanjing, and Suzhou, it is lower, with the current average house price of 8,000; affordable housing guarantees ordinary residents a home. Medium and high-end commercial housing and villas meet the living and investment needs of middle- and high-income families.

Industry: The atmosphere is strong, especially suitable for entrepreneurship and development. Foreign capital, state-owned and private enterprises are divided into three parts. The most famous is the 530 Plan (Turtle High-tech Talent Entrepreneurship Development).

Business: Commerce is developed, with the highest density of large-scale Chinese and foreign-owned supermarkets in the country. The tertiary industry is developed.

Agriculture: high-tech agriculture, specialty agriculture, fishery, traditional snacks coexist with high-end restaurants and Western food.

Wuxi people have no worries about food and clothing, and are modest and reserved; they are not under high pressure in work and life.

History: It has a short history and few humanities; there is only one formal subordinate university (Jiangnan University). Elementary school, junior high school, and high school are highly competitive and the pressure to enter higher education is high.

Eating and drinking: It has become nationalized, and dishes can be eaten from all over the country; local dishes and snacks are relatively sweet, but they are adapted to the local climate. The food is not expensive.

Wear: Ordinary people in Wuxi don’t pay attention to what they wear. Rich people wear famous brands, but they don’t show off. Luxury goods, high-end goods, mid-priced, and low-end clothing can all be found in different shopping malls or places.

Health: National Civilized Sanitary City, National Forest City, Candidate International Sanitary City... The health and sanitation system is complete, everyone has medical insurance, and modern Chinese and Western medicine are developed.

Public Security: One of the cities with the best public security system in the country, you can go out at night with confidence. A small number of criminals are mostly unemployed or transient people from other places, and they can mostly be identified by their appearance.

Xenophobia: Local people, especially the elderly, are more xenophobic, especially targeting people from certain areas.
