Jishou prison was established in September, 1952. It is one of the earliest local prisons in Hunan Province, and it is also the only prison built in minority areas in the province. Jishou Prison in Hunan Province is a departmental unit under the jurisdiction of the Judicial Bureau of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, located in Yangjiaping, Jishou City, Hunan Province. The main function of this unit is to implement the Prison Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) and supervise and educate criminals.
