From 65438 to 0937, the National Academia Sinica of the Kuomintang began to build the Institute of Geography, and hired Mr. Li Siguang as the director of the preparatory office of the Institute of Geography of the National Academia Sinica, but it failed due to the war and funding problems.

1940 In August, Zhu Jiahua, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sino-British G Fund, proposed to establish the China Institute of Geography, located in Beibei District, Chongqing, Sichuan Province, with Huang as its director. The institute consists of physical geography group, life geography group, geodesy group and oceanography group, with more than 40 employees.

During the period of 1947, China Institute of Geography was placed under the Ministry of Education of the Kuomintang, and its director was replaced by Lin Chao. At the same time, the institute moved from Beibei, Chongqing, Sichuan to Nanjing.

1949, Nanjing liberation was taken over by the Culture and Education Department of Nanjing Military Management Committee. At that time, the institute had only nine employees.

1950 was handed over to China Academy of Sciences, and the preparatory office of the Institute of Geography of China Academy of Sciences was established, with Zhu Kezhen and Huang as the director and deputy director of the preparatory office.

1970 In July, under the leadership of the former Provincial Science and Technology Bureau, the Institute of China Academy of Sciences was decentralized to Jiangsu Province and renamed as "Jiangsu Institute of Geography".

1In June, 979, China Academy of Sciences proposed to agree to the dual leadership of China Academy of Sciences and the province, and renamed it "Nanjing Institute of Geography, China Academy of Sciences".
