History of Hebei Provincial Museum

Hebei Museum is located in Shijiazhuang Cultural Square, starting from Zhongshan Road in the north, Fanxi Road in the south, Dongjie Street in the east and Xijie Street in the west. It is a provincial comprehensive museum in Hebei Province, a national patriotic education demonstration base and a national first-class museum. Hebei Museum, formerly known as Hebei Provincial Museum, was established in April 1953, located in the courtyard of the ancient lotus pond in Baoding. In April 1982, it moved to Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital, to borrow the Hebei Provincial Exhibition Hall for office and exhibition. 1986, the exhibition hall and the museum were merged and transformed into Hebei Provincial Museum, which was officially opened the following year. With the continuous development of the museum, the Hebei Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government decided to rebuild and expand the Hebei Provincial Museum in 2006, and construction started in the same year. 20 13 was opened to the public on June 8th, officially opened on June 9th, and the Hebei Museum was unveiled. The present building is divided into north area and south area. The north area was built at 1968. It used to be "Long Live the Victory of Mao Zedong Thought Exhibition Hall". Its appearance is similar to the colonnade building of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, with a total construction area of 20,028 square meters. Its architectural style embodies the distinctive characteristics of the times. The Southern District is a newly-built area with a total construction area of 3,365,438 square meters and a total investment of 628 million yuan. The new building is surrounded by tall columns, which echoes the architectural modeling and main color of the North District. With a total construction area of 53 128 square meters and an exhibition area of more than 22,000 square meters, Hebei Provincial Museum is a symbolic cultural landscape of Shijiazhuang. The collection of cultural relics in Hebei Museum is 6,543,800+5,000 pieces, including 334 pieces (sets) of first-class products, 0/0/0 pieces (sets) of second-class products16,365,438 pieces (sets) of third-class products/kloc-0. Cultural relics unearthed from Han tombs in Mancheng, porcelain from four famous kilns in ancient Hebei, blue and white porcelain in Yuan Dynasty, Buddhist statues in stone carvings, paintings and calligraphy by local celebrities in Ming and Qing Dynasties and cultural relics during the Anti-Japanese War are the most distinctive. In addition, there are more than 50,000 books in the museum, many of which are rare books of Ming and Qing dynasties, and it is one of the main collection units of local chronicles in Hebei Province. Hebei Provincial Museum integrates the advantages of cultural relics collected by provincial cultural institutions, extracts the most wonderful chapters in Hebei history, introduces the basic display system of the new museum, and has nine permanent exhibitions: Hebei in Stone Age, Hebei Shang Civilization, Generous Tragedy-Zhao Yan's Story, Glory of Warring States-Ancient Zhongshan Country, Farewell of Great Men-Han Tomb in Mancheng and Hundred Years. Through more than 5,000 pieces (sets) of exquisite cultural relics and modern display means, the history of human development in Hebei Province for two million years has been recorded. Every year, Hebei Museum also holds many temporary exhibitions of contemporary culture and art, perspective of social hotspots, and cultural relics exchanges at home and abroad, which greatly enriches the spiritual and cultural life of the people.
