Basse-normandie's economic situation

Basse-normandie's economy is dominated by agriculture and animal husbandry, with cutting-edge scientific and technological industries. Animal husbandry and dairy pasture, textile and fruit cultivation are the main industries. The main industries are metallurgy, machinery, nuclear power generation, light industry, electronics and chemical industry. Animal husbandry is very developed, and it is the third largest dairy and beef cattle production base in France. It mainly grows wheat, barley, potatoes, oats, corn and sugar beet. The fishery is very developed, and the annual income from marine fishing alone reaches 600 million francs (about 1 billion US dollars), accounting for 1 1.2% of the total seafood in France. This area is one of the four major tourist areas in France, and tourism ranks fourth in France.

The output of cream, Fromage frais, soft cheese, cider, leek, turnip and flax in this area leads the whole country, and it is also the area with the largest number of horses in France. Because there are prairies in the west, pasture is the main area. There are iron mines near Caen. Tourism is also one of the important local industries. There are direct ferries to England (Cherbourg-Oktville and UIstler).
