Old ideas have a long history. According to historical records, the site of Laoguanchang was originally the site of Gufeng County. In the eighth year of Tian Jian, Liang Wudi in the Southern Dynasties (AD 509), Baima Yiyang County was located here. In the second year of the Western Wei Dynasty (AD 555), Baima Yiyang County was changed to Baima County, and a county was established. This place originally belonged to Wei, hence its name. In the 20th year of Yuan Shizu to Yuan Dynasty (AD 1283), Guofeng County was abandoned and never recovered. Guofeng County was abandoned in 729 (AD 555- 1283). Hougeng County was Gu Feng Township and Qingjin Township in Qing Dynasty. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was Laoguan Township, which was established as Laoguan Town on 1985. It has been more than 700 years since Laoguan withdrew from the county and set up a city.

During the Second Revolutionary Civil War, Laoguan became the revolutionary base of Sichuan and Shaanxi and the seat of the Soviet government in Cangxi County. After liberation, Laoguan was designated as a district and town. 1992 Withdraw the district and merge with the township, cancel the office of Laoguan District, and merge Xishan, Longping and tuya into Laoguan Town. 1September 1994, Xishan and tuya townships were separated when the organizational system was improved;1September 1996, the District Working Committee was restored, and Laoguan Town was separated from Longping Township. In 2005, the organizational system was adjusted and tuya Township was separated. During the Second Revolutionary Civil War, Li Xiannian led the Red Fourth Front Army to establish the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Base and the Soviet government in Cangxi County. The headquarters of the Red Thirty Army and the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Base established the old concept, and launched famous battles such as the peasant uprising of the old concept, the night attack on Laojun Mountain and the third battle of Jishanliang. A large number of red slogans and revolutionary sites are still flashing red.
