On January 1st, 21, the Law of the People's Republic of China on the National Common Language and Characters came into effect, which marked that the use of the national common language and characters in China was on the track of legal system in an all-round way, and was of great significance for promoting the reunification of the motherland, national unity and social progress. Over the past four years, centering on the implementation of the law, with the city as the center, the school as the foundation, the state organs as the leader, the news media as the example, and the public service industry as the window, the standardization of language and writing in our city is progressing steadily.

Since the implementation of the Language and Character Law, schools at all levels have actively incorporated the popularization of Putonghua and standardized Chinese characters into the routine of school management, and taken measures to eliminate the backward phenomenon of using dialects and nonstandard Chinese characters.

In recent years, with the in-depth development of popularizing Putonghua and the implementation of the system of teachers holding Putonghua grade certificates, the number of people who voluntarily take the Putonghua proficiency test in society has gradually increased. Starting from 24, in June and December every year, the Putonghua proficiency test for social workers will be carried out regularly, thus further promoting the popularization of Putonghua in the whole society.

In state organs, more and more staff can consciously use Putonghua in their official activities. Training and testing national civil servants in Putonghua is the requirement of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Common Languages and Characters, and it is also the requirement of efficiently performing official duties, ensuring the smooth implementation of government decrees and improving the level of urban civilization. Radio and television media is also an important position to promote Putonghua. Over the years, the radio and television departments of our city have actively practiced this spirit and vigorously strengthened the popularization of Putonghua. In order to enrich the program forms, reflect the regional cultural characteristics, and be closer to life and people, a series of Putonghua programs have been launched while maintaining the local characteristics, effectively enhancing the public's awareness of popularization.

Standardizing language and writing needs to be controlled * * *

Since the implementation of the National Law on Common Language and Writing, the concept of "speaking Mandarin and writing standardized words" has been deeply rooted in people's hearts. However, it is not easy to promote the standardization of language and characters, which requires the concerted efforts of all levels and departments.

The nonstandard use of Chinese characters in society will not only damage the overall image of the city, but also adversely affect people's thinking, especially the cognition of primary and secondary school students.

In order to further strengthen the management of social Chinese characters, the municipal government requires all units to carry out the work of cleaning up and rectifying social Chinese characters in urban areas; The Communist Youth League Committee should also organize young volunteers to take to the streets to check the use of outdoor advertisements, signboards, slogans and other standardized Chinese characters in our city during the national Putonghua Promotion Week, and then hand them over to the departments of industry and commerce, urban construction and other departments for rectification, so as to further improve the spiritual civilization construction and urban management level of our city.

The State Language Commission emphasizes that maintaining the purity and health of spoken and written languages is not only a sign of a country's civilization, but also a major issue related to national sovereignty and national dignity. At present, the application of social language is unprecedentedly active, and the role of language as a communication tool is increasingly prominent. In this case, it is particularly urgent to increase the intensity of language work. The relevant person in charge of the State Language Committee believes that the key to the implementation of the Law on the National Common Language and Characters lies in its implementation. Governments at all levels and relevant departments should really take responsibility, improve the language and character work institutions, and timely issue specific corresponding laws and regulations or implementation measures. At the same time, strengthen the management and supervision of language and writing. Because it involves a wide range, this work not only depends on the language and writing departments, but also other departments must cooperate with each other and make concerted efforts to hold the Eighth National Putonghua Promotion Week as an opportunity to gradually form a good atmosphere of "speaking Putonghua and using standardized words" in the whole society.
