On the 25th, a crack appeared in the ground at the wellhead and natural gas spewed out, causing a fire. The Sebei No. 1 gas field was discovered. Since the focus was on searching for oil at that time, the development of gas fields was temporarily abandoned.

In early 1974, in accordance with the spirit of the instructions of the Ministry of Petrochemical Industry and the Qinghai Provincial Government to "further clarify natural gas reserves," the Administration adjusted its deployment, dispatched drilling teams, and restarted natural gas exploration in the Sebei area. In April, Drilling Brigade 1270 made its first expedition to the Salt Lake area in the eastern Qaidam Basin, drilling nine consecutive wells and preliminarily identifying the natural gas reservoirs in the Salt Lake structure.

In 1975, the 1270 drilling team drilled Well Sezhong 1 and Well Sezhong 2 in the Sebei No. 2 structure, both obtained industrial gas flow, and discovered the Sebei No. 2 gas field. Later, the 1270 team drilled the Sebei No. 1 structure and drilled the Sezhong 4 well.

In 1977, the Gaskule Oil Field was discovered, and the focus of exploration shifted to the western Qaidam Basin, and the exploration of the gas field was suspended.

During the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" period, the "three projects" of Qinghai Oilfield were basically completed. With the completion and commissioning of the Golmud Refinery, Qinghai Oilfield has gradually entered a new stage of oil and gas field development and comprehensive utilization of petrochemicals. Crude oil production has grown rapidly, and oilfield development has achieved an annual crude oil production of 100×10t. The task of ensuring stable growth of crude oil production has become increasingly important. The oilfield has begun to implement strategic shifts and prepare for the development and trial production of Sebei and Tainan gas fields. At the end of the "Seventh Five-Year Plan", strategic shifts began to be implemented, and the Sebei Gas Field entered the trial production and evaluation stage.

In March 1991, Wang Tao, general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation, and his delegation went to Qinghai Oilfield for on-site work and clearly stated that Qinghai Oilfield should find a way out of the national strategic pattern of "stabilizing the east and developing the west". The development path of “promoting both oil and gas”. On April 19, the Administration established a preliminary work project team for the three natural gas projects. Ma Lixing, Huang Pingzhong, Li Wei, Ma Lining and others formed a professional technical team to implement the preliminary evaluation work of the three natural gas projects and prepare a natural gas development plan. plan to prepare for the large-scale development of the Sebei Gas Field.

In 1992, Wang Tao, general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation, and others listened to a special report on the "Sebei Natural Gas Development Plan" of Qinghai Oilfield in Beijing. Experts from the Development Bureau of the Corporation, Meng Muyao and Li Haiping, came to the basin to conduct mineral exploration and implement deployment.

On February 17, 1995, in accordance with the goal of “carrying out a second entrepreneurship and achieving three doublings” proposed by the enlarged meeting of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Bureau, the Administration decided to establish a natural gas development company. Manager Zong Yiping and chief geologist Wang Junchen are responsible for the natural gas development of the Sebei gas field. On March 5, the Natural Gas Development Company was established at the Golmud Petrochemical Base and started operations.

Due to early natural gas being restricted by export pipelines and the slow development of the downstream market, natural gas development has been at a standstill. With the transformation of the national energy strategy, the development of natural gas has gradually received attention. Qinghai Oilfield began to prepare natural gas development plans during the Eighth Five-Year Plan. By the end of 2005, it had formulated and implemented three five-year plans. The “Eighth Five-Year Plan” mainly prepares for the formal development of Qinghai natural gas. The "Ninth Five-Year Plan" carried out trial mining work in gas fields and mines, established a test well group, carried out data collection, and completed the construction of the Se (Sebei)-Ge (Golmud) natural gas export pipeline and stations, etc., for The preparation of gas field development plans provides basic information and also accumulates experience for ground construction. During the implementation of the "Tenth Five-Year Plan", the natural gas production of Qinghai Oilfield increased rapidly, especially the completion and operation of the Se (Sebei) - Xi (Xining) - Lan (Lanzhou) natural gas long-distance pipeline, which basically solved the bottleneck restricting natural gas development. , natural gas production ushered in a golden age.

On August 31, 1996, the first long-distance natural gas pipeline in the eastern Qaidam Basin - the Sebei No. 1 Gas Field to Golmud long-distance natural gas pipeline was put into operation at the terminal station of the Sebei-Germu Gas Pipeline. During the transportation ceremony, the pipeline has a total length of 189km, a pipe diameter of 377mm, and a designed annual gas transmission capacity of 8×10m, marking the formal development of Sebei natural gas.

The historical responsibility of building and developing large gas fields and transforming the natural gas resource advantages of the Qaidam Basin into economic advantages fell on the shoulders of the Natural Gas Development Company. After 12 years of ups and downs and hard work, a modern high-quality plateau gas field with "high starting point, high standard and high level" has been carefully created.

In August 1996, the first gas transmission pipeline in the Sebei gas field, the "Sege" pipeline, was completed and put into operation. Sebei's natural gas was transported to the outside through pipelines for the first time, and the development of the gas field entered into reality. sexual stage.

Two years later, in 1998, in line with the principle that development results should be shared exclusively by employees, oilfield leaders led Qinghai oilmen to make full use of the natural gas resource advantages of the Qaidam Basin and rely entirely on their own strength. The "Xiandun" gas transmission pipeline was built, and Qaidam's natural gas crossed the Dangjin Mountains and came out of the basin for the first time. More than 10,000 employee families in the Dunhuang Petroleum Base bid farewell to gas tanks and used clean and efficient natural gas, which greatly improved the fuel structure. , clean the environment and improve the quality of life. At the same time, the sincere cooperation between natural gas companies and oilfield exploration and research, drilling engineering, ground construction and other units has led to a rapid increase in the proven geological reserves of natural gas in Sebei, with proven reserves rapidly rising to 150 billion in 1998 cubic meters, making it one of the four largest atmospheric regions in the country.

In December 1998, amidst the joyful songs and laughter celebrating the early realization of the "three doublings", Qinghai Oilfield held the Ninth Party Congress, which was of great significance in inheriting the past and ushering in the future, and proposed the implementation of the "5355" project. strategic goals. The "3" in this goal refers to proven natural gas reserves of 300 billion cubic meters, and the "5" in this goal refers to the annual natural gas production of 5 billion cubic meters. It indicates that natural gas will become half of the Qinghai Oilfield. The natural gas development company has a heavy and arduous responsibility!

The rapid growth of natural gas reserves in Sebei attracted great attention from the State Council, the group company, and the Qinghai Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government. Zhu Rongji, then Premier of the State Council, specially listened to the Qinghai Oilfield Work report, personally inquired about the implementation of gas field exploration reserves and the approval of the Sebei-Xining-Lanzhou gas pipeline construction project.

In 2000, riding on the strength of the country’s western development and the march towards the construction of the West-East Gas Pipeline, the construction of the “Seninglan” Pipeline began. On May 18, 2001, the Sebei Gas Field supplied gas to the "Seninglan" pipeline for the first time. Qinghai Oilfield held a grand celebration ceremony for this. This project was called the first monument of the West-East Gas Pipeline by many media The landmark project, with an annual gas transmission capacity of 2 billion to 3 billion cubic meters, has enabled 15 cities, counties, districts along the pipeline and the two provincial capital cities of Xining and Lanzhou to start using Qaidam's clean energy, benefiting millions of people.

On August 18 of the same year, the "Xianyi" gas pipeline was fully connected and connected with the "Nanhua" line. At this point, the gas transmission pipeline network with Sebei as the center and radiating to the southeast and northwest has been fully completed. On May 29, 2007, the double line of the "Sege" gas pipeline was completed and put into operation, bringing the total length of the Qinghai Oilfield gas pipeline to 2,028 kilometers and a gas transmission capacity of 6.6 billion cubic meters.

The Qaidam Basin is rich in natural gas resources, with total resources reaching 2.5 trillion cubic meters. Since its second start-up, especially during the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" period, the oilfield has made full use of new technologies and new processes, strengthened scientific research demonstrations, deepened analysis of old data, and intensified scientific and technological research efforts. As a result, Sebei's natural gas reserves have continued to rise. During this period, the proven reserves were 142.8 billion cubic meters. At present, the three Sebei gas fields have proven natural gas reserves of 272.8 billion cubic meters, and the proven natural gas reserves of the entire basin are more than 350 billion cubic meters. The "3" in the "5355" goal has been achieved first.

Production capacity construction is the highlight of natural gas development, including drilling, well logging, underground operations, pipeline network laying, gas gathering stations, road construction and many other supporting projects.
