In order to strengthen the management of fishing gear, consolidate the results of the special action to clean up and rectify illegal fishing gear, and protect marine fishery resources, according to the Fisheries Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), the Regulations on the Protection of Biological Resources in Bohai Sea and the Action Plan for the Protection of Aquatic Biological Resources in China, the Ministry of Agriculture decided to implement the minimum mesh size system for licensed fishing gear and transitional fishing gear for marine fishing.

Since June 1, 20 14, the minimum mesh size system for licensed fishing gear and transitional fishing gear has been fully implemented in the Yellow Sea, Bohai Sea, East China Sea and South China Sea.
