I believe what Wang Wei said is true, not made up.

8 1 192 incident, also known as the South China Sea plane collision incident, occurred on April 1 day, 2006. An EP-3E reconnaissance plane of the U.S. Navy carried out reconnaissance missions in the South China Sea, and two J-8II fighters were sent by the Naval Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army for surveillance and interception.

One of the wingmen collided with an American plane over the exclusive economic zone of China, 70 nautical miles (1 10 km) southeast of Hainan Island in China, and the China fighter plane crashed. The whereabouts of pilot Wang Wei's parachuting were unknown, which was later confirmed as a sacrifice by China.

In fact, as a supersonic fighter, it is very dangerous for the J-8 fighter to track the propeller plane EP-3E at close range. But the pilots of the two fighters were not afraid, but approached the US plane step by step to defend China's territory!
