Who can talk about five volumes of dynamic disk?

Five kinds of volumes on dynamic disks

1. Simple Volume: A volume that constitutes a single physical disk space. It can be composed of a single area on a disk, or it can be composed of multiple areas connected together on the same disk, and a simple volume can be extended on the same disk.

2. Spanning a volume: A simple volume can also be extended to other physical disks, so a volume consisting of the space of multiple physical disks is called a spanning volume. Neither simple volume nor spanned volume belongs to RAID category.

3. Striped volume: A volume that stores data in stripes on two or more physical disks. The data on striped volumes is evenly distributed to these disks alternately (in the form of stripes). Striped volumes have the best performance among all available volumes in Windows 2000, but they do not provide fault tolerance. If any disk data on a striped volume is corrupted or fails, the data on the entire volume will be lost. Striped volumes can be regarded as RAID0 in hardware RAID.

4. Mirror Volume: A fault-tolerant volume that copies data on two physical disks. It provides data redundancy by using a copy (mirror) of the volume to copy the information in the volume, and the mirror is always located on another disk. If one of the physical disks fails, the data on the failed disk will be unavailable, but the system can continue to run with the unaffected disk. Mirror volume can be regarded as RAID 1 in hardware RAID.

5.RAID-5 Volume: A fault-tolerant volume with data and parity, sometimes distributed on three or more physical disks. Parity is used to rebuild data after an array failure. If a part of a physical disk fails, you can use the remaining data and parity information to recreate the data in the failed part of the disk. Similar to RAID5 in hardware RAID, RAID5 is rare in hardware IDE RAID and can only be provided in SCSI RAID cards and high-end IDE RAID cards. Ordinary IDE RAID cards only provide RAID0, RAID 1, RAID 0+ 1.
