Tell the story of peacekeepers in China.
After arriving in the mission area, these soldiers, wearing China military uniform, China flag armband and United Nations flag armband on their left arm and right arm respectively, overcame many difficulties and faithfully fulfilled their peace mission, and wrote the elegant demeanor of China soldiers with practical actions in a short time. Lieutenant General Gasbil Riddle, commander-in-chief of UNMIS, praised after inspecting the camp in chinese peacekeepers: "The excellent style and professionalism of China soldiers are worth learning from other peacekeeping forces."
China peacekeepers in Sudan
Our reporter Shu Xiaohua correspondent Liu Xianqing Yao Nantong photo report
Since February this year, the equipment, materials and personnel of the peacekeeping force have arrived in the Sudan mission area by water and air respectively. As this is the first time for China soldiers to go to Sudan for peacekeeping, the peacekeeping troops have no barracks, clean water, electricity and other basic living conditions in the mission area. The camp is located in dense bushes. In order to build the camp as soon as possible, peacekeeping engineers from Jiaodong Peninsula have to work continuously at a high temperature above 40 degrees Celsius 10 for more than 0 hours every day.
This peacekeeping mission to Sudan is the first time that jinan military area command has teamed up to carry out peacekeeping missions, and it is also the first time that China has sent peacekeeping troops to Sudan.
The bulldozer invited two snakes.
Although the Sudanese government signed the Comprehensive Peace Agreement with the southern rebels, the overall situation in Sudan is relatively stable at present, but the long-term war has led to a large number of weapons flowing to the people. Only 654.38 million unrecorded and irregularly laid mines pose a certain threat to the safety of peacekeepers. In southern Sudan, where chinese peacekeepers is located, armed men with weapons can be seen on the streets from time to time. They carry guns on their backs or put them in the back seat of bicycles.
The harsh natural environment is also a threat to the officers and men who carry out this peacekeeping mission. Southern Sudan is located in the tropical rain forest area, with hot and humid climate and many mosquitoes. At present, it is the rainy season, mosquitoes are rampant, and it is easy to get malaria after being bitten. Among the 25 advance team members who arrived in advance, more than 10 suffered from malaria and all of them have been cured. It is understood that every week, 10 to 20 Kenyan peacekeepers who are adjacent to China peacekeepers suffer from malaria.
Besides mosquitoes, poisonous snakes and scorpions that haunt the bushes around the tent are more dangerous. There are more than 20 kinds of poisonous snakes in Sudan, some of which are deadly. After the peacekeepers arrived at the camp, they found two green transparent snakes about 2 meters long on the dry branches next to the tent. No one has seen this kind of snake, and I don't know if it is poisonous. For the sake of safety, peacekeeping officers and soldiers had to dispatch bulldozers to "please" dry branches and two snakes into the distant bushes.
Before arriving in Sudan, peacekeeping officers and soldiers learned from various channels that Sudan's scorpions were particularly powerful, and they really felt this when they arrived in the field. From time to time, big scorpions with black body and long poisonous hooks at the tail can be found around the tent, and most of them are over 10 cm in length. Even more frightening is that on May 19, a big scorpion was found under the bed of the driver Xu Lei during cleaning. According to the peacekeepers who arrived in advance, a member of the Kenyan peacekeeping force was unfortunately stung by a scorpion and cried all night. The sad cry embarrassed everyone around.
I drank sewage for a whole week.
It is about 4 kilometers away from Wau Airport in Sudan, and Fiona Fang 1.35 square kilometers. It is a World War II peacekeeping force camp designated by the United Nations Mission in Sudan in dense bushes. China, Indian, Kenyan and Pakistani peacekeeping forces belonging to the UNMIS World War II area all live in this area. UNMIS used brick stacks to define camps in four countries. Peacekeeping forces of various countries have also laid barbed wire around their respective camps.
As it is the first time to go to Sudan for peacekeeping, chinese peacekeepers has no basic living conditions such as barracks, clean water and electricity in the mission area. After a period of construction, the Indian and Kenyan peacekeeping force camps deployed in advance to the mission area have begun to take shape and various living facilities are relatively perfect. Compared with them, our peacekeeping troops have just been deployed, and only some tents have been built in the camp for living, and other infrastructure has not been perfected.
Sudan's transportation equipment is relatively backward, and there is no power generation system installed to supply power to thermostatic refrigerated containers. The fresh meat and vegetables stored in containers in chinese peacekeepers are rotten, so we can only satisfy our hunger with vermicelli and yuba. The problem of domestic water is another difficult problem faced by peacekeepers in China. Due to the extremely bad road conditions in southern Sudan, four water purification equipments of China peacekeepers were damaged during transportation. Until technicians come to repair equipment (including drinking water and cooking), China peacekeepers can only get an average of 4.5 liters of bottled water per person per day. Without electricity, peacekeepers generate their own electricity, but it is very difficult to solve the water problem. Water purification equipment seriously damaged during transportation cannot be repaired by itself. In the first few days, peacekeeping officers and soldiers could only drink water purified by drugs, but it was still very turbid. This kind of water is yellow and the mouth is astringent. All officers and men know that drinking this kind of water is unsanitary, but they should drink a few mouthfuls when they are thirsty. After all, survival comes first. Fortunately, the United Nations soon provided drinking water. With the help of domestic technicians, the seriously damaged water purification equipment was finally repaired on the seventh day after the technicians arrived.
According to Li Wensheng, the construction engineer of the engineering detachment, the camp of the engineering detachment has been leveled and the construction of barracks is about to begin. It is expected that in two months, officers and men will live in air-conditioned steel frame houses. He also said that after the completion of the construction of chinese peacekeepers camp, it will become a beautiful scenery in World War II, which has been obvious to all the peacekeeping troops in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia.
China's engineering unit will also carry out the construction of the World War II area headquarters, the camps for civilians, staff officers, police and observers, the Pakistani peacekeeping force aviation unit camp and the roads between the camps, and then start the construction works outside the camps, including the construction of heavy vehicle lanes around the camps, Wau airport and simple roads from Wau to Rumbek and Wau to Uwel, which are hundreds of kilometers long. Therefore, the future work of the engineering detachment will be extremely arduous.
Seven Flowers in Peacekeeping Forces
Among the first peacekeeping troops from China to Sudan, there were seven female nurses from jinan military area command General Hospital. They are the only seven women in the peacekeeping force and are known as the seven golden flowers in the peacekeeping force.
Although they are lesbians, there are only gender differences between them and the male members of the peacekeeping force, and there is no difference in their work. When they first arrived at the camp, they shouldered the high temperature of more than 40 degrees Celsius, packed up transportation materials, repaired and dug drainage ditches, and undertook the same heavy physical labor as the male players. Camouflage clothes soon changed color. This is undoubtedly a test for them who seldom engage in manual labor at home on weekdays, but they are ready to suffer hardships. Guo Zhihong, the head nurse, said simply: "We are the first female soldiers sent by China to Sudan for peacekeeping, and our words and deeds represent the image of Chinese female soldiers. Here, the most important thing is to complete the peacekeeping mission, and it doesn't matter if you suffer a little. " What bothers the seven female players most is that they didn't take a bath for the first three days after arriving in the mission area, and there was no place to go to the toilet. It's really inconvenient when it's convenient
In Sudan, which is far away from Wan Li, it is a complex for the players to miss their families. I'm afraid these seven flowers are more homesick than male players. Four of the seven female nurses have become mothers, and their children are their concern. The laptops that the four of them carry with them are full of pictures of children. When they are free, they turn on the computer and look at the photos of their children. Although I can't keep abreast of the children's recent situation, I can always comfort their thoughts and enjoy the "face-to-face" affection.
After arriving in the mission area, the most unforgettable thing for the seven of them was to call home for the first time. At that time, when the leader informed them that each of them was authorized to make a one-minute maritime satellite phone call to report that their home was safe, they all danced and were particularly excited. Compared with the convenient communication in China, this phone is extremely precious. They really hope that this minute can last longer and talk to their families more, but time is limited after all. "Unconsciously time passed, and I played for almost two minutes! But I feel that I haven't finished what I want to say. " Nurse Song is somewhat helpless in happiness. "I wish I had a chance to call home more often, so as not to worry about my family all day."
At present, the engineering unit of China's peacekeeping force in Sudan has started to build China barracks and a second-level hospital in Wau camp. The engineering detachment must first level the land that used to be wasteland and bushes, then transport red soil from other places, lay it on the ground and tamp it repeatedly, and then build barracks and other buildings on it. It is understood that this hospital will not only be responsible for treating the wounded and sick in World War II, but also receive and treat local patients. All the equipment, instruments and medicines in the hospital are provided by China. Related links
Sudan covers an area of about 2.5 million square kilometers and is the largest country on the African continent. The southern region accounts for about a quarter of the total area of Sudan. The United Nations peacekeeping force in Sudan consists of about 654.38+0000 soldiers and 765.438+05 policemen from 63 countries, and is deployed in six war zones in central and southern Sudan.
The World War II camp of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Sudan is located on the outskirts of Wau city in southern Sudan. Wau is marked as a city on the map, but in fact it is just a poor tribal village. Before chinese peacekeepers entered Wau camp, a Kenyan peacekeeping force and an Indian peacekeeping force had been stationed in the camp. On the 29th, the last batch of China peacekeepers were deployed. As the barracks have not been built, all the peacekeepers in China live in tents, 10 square meter tents, each with 8 to 9 people.
Sudan is the country with the highest annual average temperature in the world, which is called the "world stove", while the southern region is not only hot all the year round, but also humid, which is the "steamer on the stove".
