Talking about the tachometer

When we get into the front row of the car, the first thing that catches our eye is undoubtedly the center console, which is equipped with instrument panel, air conditioner and audio panel, storage box, airbag and so on, and what we are going to talk about today is the tachometer in the instrument panel on the center console.

Tachometer, that is, engine tachometer, is simply an instrument used to display engine speed. How many revolutions per minute can your engine run when you drive? Look at this watch, you can see it at a glance. However, it is a big mistake to think that the engine tachometer only shows one speed. In fact, there are still "four functions" hidden on this tachometer.

First of all, the tachometer can let us know whether the engine has started. We know that in order to light the engine, we need to turn the key three times, that is, turn it to the "start" position. For a novice friend who is driving for the first time, sometimes you may think that the engine will ignite after only two turns, and then the gear lever, brake and clutch are all as fierce as tigers, but the car just won't move. Isn't it embarrassing?

This is not bad. Sometimes the engine is obviously started, but because of the good sound insulation effect of the car and a little nervous, I can't hear the sound of the engine running at all, so I continue to twist the key down. The result is not only embarrassing, but also harmful to our car.

However, just look at the tachometer, you can completely avoid such a thing. As long as the tachometer is not zero, it proves that the engine is running, that is, the engine is on fire; Conversely, if the tachometer indicates zero, it means that the engine has not started working.

Secondly, the tachometer can remind us what gear the car is driving in. We may all have had this experience. When the road we are driving is very flat and the road conditions are very good, then at this time, we can easily reach 80 km/h or even higher with the fourth gear. But at this time, the engine speed will be very high, which will increase fuel consumption accordingly. If we look at the tachometer, hehe, you will not hesitate to put on the fifth gear.

Of course, this function of the tachometer is basically only applicable to cars with manual transmission. If your car is automatic, it doesn't matter much if you take a look.

Third, the tachometer is also a sign of our shift timing. Under normal circumstances, we shift gears according to the sound of the engine. In other words, we shift gears by feeling, which may not be difficult for an old driver, but it may not be possible for a novice friend. If novice friends also shift gears by listening to the sound of the engine, it will easily lead to mismatch between engine speed and gear, which will only increase fuel consumption and make driving uncomfortable. If you look at the tachometer and shift gears according to the engine speed, this problem will be solved. Of course, this basically only applies to cars with manual transmission.

Finally, the tachometer can also help beginners practice difficult startup operations. At present, in most parts of our country, the coach cars in driving schools are basically manual transmission (of course, there are special C2 driving tests in some places), but in the practice of manual transmission, the seemingly simple start actually hurts the brains of many students. We might as well think about who hasn't put out the fire during the driving test we have experienced personally, especially when we started halfway up the slope.

But as long as we always pay attention to the tachometer, this flameout will be greatly reduced, because the engine itself is the easiest to flameout at a speed below 600 rpm, so as long as we can keep the engine speed above 600 rpm, the probability of flameout is much smaller.

In a word, the tachometer on the dashboard is not only a display of engine speed, but also a decorative display. Its hiding function is actually very practical.
