El Nino mainly occurs in the South Pacific, and I think it is an abnormal thermal cycle phenomenon. In general, the southeast trade winds prevail in the South Pacific, and the surface warm seawater flows westward, so the seawater temperature on the west coast of the South Pacific (such as near Australia and Indonesia) increases, while the temperature on the east coast of the South Pacific (such as near Peru and Ecuador) decreases due to the flooding of cold water, leading to thermal cycle. El Nino phenomenon is an abnormal phenomenon, that is, the southeast trade winds weaken or the wind direction reverses, which makes the warm sea water on the west coast of the South Pacific return eastward, raises the sea water temperature on the east coast, and lowers the sea water temperature on the west coast, forming an opposite thermal circulation, leading to the occurrence of El Nino phenomenon.

When there is a disaster, usually when El Nino occurs, the west coast is generally dry (for example, there is a forest fire in Indonesia because of dryness), and the precipitation on the east coast increases, which is easy to cause floods. At the same time, it has a great impact on Peruvian beaches, resulting in a large number of fish deaths and losses to fisheries.

This is just the opposite of La Nina phenomenon. To put it simply, El Nino is not normal and La Nina is too normal.
