What is the design process of the ice pier?

At the beginning, the mascot of the Winter Olympics was designed as "sugar gourd"! Wrapped in a layer of "rock sugar" shell.

After several comparisons, we finally determined a more meaningful animal: our national treasure panda.

However, the design of pandas is very difficult for designers. In order to strive for the real effect, the designers also made a special trip to Wolong Panda Base to observe the panda cubs and truly show the embarrassing image of the panda cubs, which is why they have this style at present.

After the manuscript was completed, the "rock sugar panda" was put on the Olympic rings and eventually evolved into the current "five ribbons", thus giving birth to the "ice pier" that everyone loves!

Core creativity

Design and creation based on the panda. Combining the panda image with the super ice crystal shell embodies the characteristics of winter ice and snow movement and modern science and technology. The shape of the head shell is taken from the ice and snow sports helmet, decorated with colorful rings, and inspired by the "Ice Ribbon" of the National Speed Skating Hall of Beijing Winter Olympics. The flowing bright lines symbolize the ice and snow sports track and 5G high technology.

The heart-shaped pattern in the palm of the left hand represents the warm welcome of the host country to friends all over the world. The overall image resembles an astronaut, which means creating extraordinary and exploring the future, and embodies the infinite possibility of pursuing Excellence, leading the times and facing the future.
