The Naton Festival is a social and recreational festival for the Tu people to celebrate the harvest. It is also known as the "Farmers' Meeting", "Harvest Celebration Party", etc. "Nadun" is a native transliteration, which has the same meaning as the Mongolian "Naadam", which means "entertainment".

There are many magical legends circulating locally about the origin of the Naton Festival. According to legend, there once was a highly skilled Tu carpenter, and the emperor also called him to build the palace. Three years later, a magnificent palace was built, unprecedented in its splendor and magnificence. But the evil emperor ordered the carpenter to be killed in order to enjoy the benefits for himself. The carpenter fled to his hometown overnight and organized a rebellion among the villagers who had long been unable to bear the abuse of the royal family. The emperor heard the news and sent an army to suppress it. The clever carpenter had an idea and immediately asked the villagers to beat the gongs and drums, carry the prepared war flags, and wave the dye-coated weapons towards the village temple. The emperor's army was puzzled, and the villagers told him: "We are celebrating this year's harvest, and we are dancing to thank God for the gift." So the army withdrew. Since then, in order to commemorate this clever carpenter, the annual Naton has been passed down, and gradually became grand, becoming a grand festival to celebrate the harvest.
