Hunger poem

I believe many people are familiar with the poem "Compassion for Peasants".

It means: If you sow a seed in spring, you can harvest a lot of food in autumn.

There is not a piece of land that is not cultivated, but farmers still starve to death.

Original poem:

Precautions:

1. Millet: generally refers to cereals.

2. Autumn harvest: one is "Qiu Cheng"

3. Idle fields: fields that are not cultivated.

4. Jude: Still so.

Creation background

This is the work of Li Shen, a poet in the Tang Dynasty. This is a poem that exposes social injustice and sympathizes with farmers' sufferings. This poem profoundly reflects the living conditions of farmers in feudal China. After working hard for a year, farmers finally got a bumper harvest, but they starved to death inevitably, thus exposing the deep exploitation suffered by farmers in feudal society.

Appreciate:

This poem vividly depicts the fruitful scenes everywhere, highlighting the realistic problem that farmers have worked hard to get a bumper harvest but starved to death with empty hands.

In the first two sentences, "When a millet is planted in spring, 10,000 seeds will be harvested in autumn", the bumper harvest is described concretely and vividly by changing "a millet" into "10,000 seeds", and the farmers' labor is praised by "planting" and "harvesting".

The third sentence, "There are no idle fields in the four seas", means that within the four seas, wasteland turns into fertile fields, which, combined with the first two sentences, constitutes a vivid scene of fruitful results and "gold" everywhere.

The fourth sentence, "Farmers are still starving to death", not only makes the content coherent, but also highlights the problem. Hard-working farmers got a bumper harvest with their hands, but they were still empty-handed and starved to death. Poetry forces people to think "who created this human tragedy" with a heavy heart.
