Is it better to go by express or by plane?
When many foreign trade friends send small pieces of goods (here refers to the goods of 0.5~500 kg per ticket), they will struggle whether to send international express (here refers to the express delivery through freight forwarders) or international air transport.
Mr. Edward's views are as follows:
1, in some cases, it can only be delivered by express.
If the actual weight (g.w.) or volume weight (calculated by /6000) is less than 38KG, it is unnecessary to consider air transportation. Because the minimum cargo requirement for air transportation is 38KG, and the charge is 45KG. In some locations (ports of destination), the cost is at least100kg, and the cargo is at least 90kg.
2, when the freight is not enough.
Some foreign trade friends originally intended to provide on-site service to their guests, because the freight was higher than the budget when they actually got the goods, but the freight was not enough. At this time, they can consider changing to air transportation. Of course, air freight is not like express delivery to your door. You need to explain this service to your guests first.
Usually, it is only said that the freight is not enough, and guests may not be able to accept express delivery instead of air transportation. At this time, it is necessary to tell the guests about the benefits of air transportation.
1) cost aspect
On the surface, express delivery seems to have more customs clearance and delivery services than air transportation. In fact, express delivery means asking the consignee to collect customs clearance fees (of course, customs duties will still be charged), which means that air transportation is only a delivery of missing parts.
If the guest is in the city where the airport is located, such as flying to LAX, Los Angeles, and the guest is in or near Los Angeles, the delivery fee is not much.
2) Customs clearance
Guests often ask whether it is better to clear customs by express or by air. According to our experience, customs clearance must be carried out by air. Although express delivery provides customs clearance services, regardless of product characteristics, it is generally based on a global standard, so that goods at special points cannot be cleared.
We often encounter a batch of goods cleared at the destination port for half a month, if it is express delivery. I believe many foreign trade friends also have personal experience. In the end, the consignee has to ask a local professional customs clearance company to clear the customs, and the cost is far more than the air clearance fee.
3) Freight.
Basically, except for small goods in Europe and America (within 100KG), air transportation is cheaper than express delivery.
3. Customs clearance.
As mentioned above, air clearance is easier than express delivery.
4. Safety
Express goods are often thrown up and down by violence during operation, and trampling is also common. In addition, there are many transshipment and natural loading and unloading, and the goods are easily damaged.
5, timeliness
Many cities have direct flights, but few express flights.
Express delivery is basically fixed at several transfer stations. UPS, for example, are basically Hong Kong-fly to Anchorage, Alaska, then fly to SDF Louisville, USA, and then transfer to other cities in the United States.
In the Middle East and Europe, it basically takes about 4 working days to fly to DXB Dubai, then to Cologne, Germany, and then transport by truck.
It will take a day or two by air.
Of course, air freight has to be transferred, but it's still not as good as express delivery.
However, express delivery often encounters the problem of space scheduling, and air transportation is very fast because there are many airlines to choose from, and some even do not need to be arranged in the peak season.
6, the size of the goods.
Basically, it is cost-effective to transport more than 300KG by air, which is cheaper than express delivery.
Within 300KG, depending on the distance from the airport. If it is not far from the airport and the delivery cost is low, it is still cost-effective to take air transportation.
7, the size of the freight gap between the two.
In some places, such as South America and Africa, the express delivery fee is very expensive, generally 60 ~ 70/ kg, while air transportation is much cheaper, as long as 30 ~ 40/ kg. At this time, air transportation is obviously cost-effective.
8, commodity bubble or not?
As we all know, the volume and weight of express delivery is /5000, and that of air transportation is /6000. It must be that the more times you divide it, the more cost-effective it is for you.
For example, 1CBM is 200KG except 5000, and 167KG except 6000. Therefore, if the goods are bubbling, it is recommended to take air transportation, so that the invoiced weight will be much less.
Especially when the freight is high, such as 50/KG freight, 20KG less, saving 1 1,000 yuan.
9. Is the customs clearance at the destination port (country) good?
If express delivery goes to Russia and Brazil, customs clearance is very difficult, and almost no freight forwarder will pick up the express delivery from these countries.
But air transportation is different. You only need to be responsible for the air transport to the airport, and the customs clearance will be done by the guests themselves.
Some friends may ask, isn't that throwing the problem to the customer? But you should know that it is difficult to find a freight forwarder with strong customs clearance ability in China, but it is easy for others to find it locally. Just like when you are in China, more than 10 customs brokers call you every day, but when have you ever received a call from a foreign customs broker and there is no mail?
So it will not bring inconvenience to the guests.
10, the return cost is high.
If you fail to clear customs in the destination country within the specified time, you will be forced to return it, and the returned freight will be paid by you, and the returned freight will be at the published price. For example, the published price is 100/KG containing fuel. When you go out, it's 30/ kg, and when you come back, it's 100, which adds up to 130/ kg. It's a waste of money to return the goods to you. You must find a way to get it out.
Air transport won't.
First of all, air transport will not be forced to return.
Secondly, air freight is to find another customs agent, and people are very strong, so there is no ambiguity.
According to my experience, it is.
To sum up, it is suggested that foreign trade should be as cheap as possible by air, not by express delivery.
