Fry fry in the laboratory

There are six teaching buildings in the Institute of Oceanography. The laboratory is a few bungalows, located to the south of Teaching Building No. 6. When I was studying medicine, my biggest wish in my life was to study here. Coincidentally, Executive Director Zhang of the institute was my new neighbor. His wife and I often go grocery shopping together.

Soon, Manager Zhang asked me for help and let me work at the Institute of Oceanography. To accommodate a new fry breeding project, change the water in the petri dish and feed the fry twice in the morning and evening.

The lights in the laboratory are always on in the morning and evening, which is said to be for the growth of fish fry. The waist-high water tank was bottomless, and no living creatures were visible at first. Every night I have to change the water on time at nine o'clock and don't go home until eleven o'clock. Except for the laboratory, everything was pitch black.

I adapted to the job quickly. I cleaned the laboratory so that the windows were bright and clean, and the fry were very quiet. Occasionally I talk to them. When my boyfriend came to see me, he scared the fish in the tank and the fry jumped out of the water. I warned my boyfriend that he should not come here again. One day, Lao Zhang said that these fry were humane. If you know you're there to feed them, you won't jump out.

From that day on, when I went home at night, I would meet someone around the corner of the laboratory. He said nothing and walked away from me. I thought it was a researcher working overtime in the laboratory. His footsteps were so light that other than the fish, they could hardly be heard.

At first I was not overly concerned. One day, when I was changing the water for the fry, there were sparkling waves for a moment, and all the fry jumped up as if they were electrocuted, and it seemed like it was raining on the water. I panicked, but when I turned around, there was no one behind me.

I found Lao Zhang and told him about the matter. .

After hearing this, Lao Zhang’s expression changed slightly, but he still calmly comforted me. He said you were the first person hired by the institute to take care of the fry. In the past, teachers would help with the process, but this year the institute is expanding its scientific research projects, so it requires dedicated personnel. Fish fry understands human nature, I just said it casually.

But just as I was about to leave his office, I suddenly recognized that person from a group photo on the wall. It's him. It seems that I am indeed overly concerned.

But this time, Lao Zhang’s expression changed drastically. He said that this person had left the school for a long time and could not come back. There was no more words.

After that, I went to the laboratory to feed and change water as usual. The fry are quiet and everything is back to normal. I didn't see the mysterious night traveler again for a while. Not long after, Lao Zhang’s wife died suddenly of a heart attack. At the funeral, all the people in the photo were present, except for the person I had met. Out of curiosity, I asked people around me why the photo was in the photo. The man didn't go. The people around were dumbfounded, that person had died many years ago!

I was horrified after hearing this. I have a medical background and do not believe in ghosts and gods, so I continued to feed the fish at night. But when I was bending down to clean the fish tank, all the fry jumped into the sky again uncharacteristically! A figure suddenly appeared on the water, but when he turned around, there was still no one behind him.

It’s already half past ten in the evening. I quickly put down what I was doing and hurried home.

The next day, the laboratory found that most of the fry were dead. Because of my dereliction of duty, the institute banned me from going back and deducted one-third of my salary.

A week later, Lao Zhang died suddenly in the office, and the new fry breeding project was terminated.
