To what extent can a Buddhist practitioner accept a disciple?

People who study Buddhism and lay people cannot accept disciples at any level. Teaching in white clothes will destroy Buddhism. Monks need to practice until the master allows them to go out to establish a dojo and accept disciples before they can accept disciples.

Value confusion, this refers to the one in white. (Note: White clothes refer to lay people) The Buddha said that the Dharma in white clothes is the phenomenon of the cessation of Dharma. Why destroy the law? Values ??are confused, and this is the greatest tragedy.

Why do we oppose lay Buddhists teaching the Dharma? Why do we oppose it? It’s not that there’s anything wrong with what he said, it’s that he is not a lecturer. When a layman comes out to teach the Dharma, because he does not have the status to teach the Dharma, he does not have that value and is pretending to have that value. Just like fake gold, a piece of copper pretends to be gold, and is made into jewelry for people to wear. If you don’t know, you think this thing is "gold". When it is really changed into big cakes to eat, it has to be changed into money, and it is worthless. It's just a lie for a while. The value is confused, in other words, the eyes of the fish are confused with the pearls. The eyes of the fish are also white. When used as pearls, the eyes of the fish are confused with the pearls.

We should all remember this. If we are not clear about these things and do not resist them, we cannot hate these (secular) things. If you can't hate these things, you can't get rid of them.

First of all, we must be clear about these things, resist these things, and hate these things, in order to achieve the result of separation. So if you can't get tired of this shore, you can't reach the other shore. If you can't leave this shore, how can you get to the other shore, right? I want the Saha world to be good, and then I also want to go to the Western Paradise. Is that possible? Therefore, there must be a sense of renunciation.

Just like becoming a monk, some people think: "The secular world is very good, I miss you very much." If you ask such a person to become a monk and talk about becoming a monk, he will never do it. He will just say Just say it, because he has no renunciation.

A lay scholar is not even a Dharma master. He does not possess the twenty kinds of merits. How can he teach Dharma to others? You yourself do not have the cause and condition of the Dharma.

As a monk, he doesn’t speak, he just sits there, and he has the connection with the Dharma, because he is the master of the Dharma.

There is a problem now, that is, there are many lay Buddhists. Some of them were quite good at learning Buddhism at the beginning, but later they went further and further away from the Dharma. Why is it so far away? It was he who began to think that he could spread the Dharma and save sentient beings.

As for this thought, many people who did not respond to it did not explain it to him correctly. They thought that he had become a Bodhisattva or a Dharma master, so they did these things and finally stayed away. Dharma. Because in the Dharma Ending Period, the only Dharma masters are the Three Jewels, and only monks are the Dharma masters. It is very important that a layperson cannot become a preacher.

Whether you are in a monastery or a chanting hall, you cannot be a preacher, a Zen master, or a walking master. Even all Dharma propagators in the world are monks. This is a task given by the Buddha. Lay Buddhists can only protect the Dharma and cannot play the role of presiding over it.

In the past, lay people would always put forward any problems or suggestions regarding the monks. What kind of layman is this layman who asked the question? Those who have achieved enlightenment, those who have achieved the first, second and third fruits, are not something we can relate to.

So, when we read the scriptures, we sometimes think: "Look, Vimalakirti dares to teach the Dharma to the monks, so why can't I teach it?" Have you achieved enlightenment? Have you followed the Buddha's orders? Are you the return of the ancient Buddha? Because you don't have this, we blindly exaggerate ourselves and end up making the mistake of slandering monks. This is very unjustifiable.

You should know yourself correctly, because before you achieve enlightenment, you should pay great attention to all your words and deeds. The Buddha also said that we should not believe in ourselves until we have attained enlightenment. As lay Buddhists, we have the responsibility to safeguard the long-term development of Buddhism. The continuation of the Three Jewels is the eternal mission of each of us lay Buddhist disciples. We will always uphold and protect the Three Jewels.
