A 550-word explanatory text about Confucius Academy

Guiyang Confucius Academy is located in the middle section of the Huaxi Shili River Beach National Urban Wetland Park. It covers an area of ??130 acres at the foot of General Mountain and has a construction area of ??more than 20,000 square meters. The main buildings include Dacheng Hall, Xingtan, Lecture Hall Group, Six Arts Academy, Xiangxian Temple, Yangming Temple, Kuiwen Pavilion, etc.

This Confucius Academy is the work of Liu Zhaofeng, the chief designer of the Guizhou Provincial Architectural Design Institute.

The architectural style of the Confucius Academy has four characteristics:

1. It follows the basic regulations of the Confucius Temple and retains the core elements. It is like a Confucius Temple, but not a Confucius Temple. The so-called "like a Confucian temple" means that it has the core elements of a Confucian temple, but "but not a Confucian temple" means that its sacrificial function is weakened and its learning and communication function is strengthened.

2. Combined with Guizhou’s regional culture, the Xiangxian Temple and Yangming Temple were set up to worship famous Guizhou Confucian scholars; a large number of local stones were used in the building materials; the characteristics of Guizhou’s local wooden architecture were selected, with gray, black and white as the main colors. Main color.

3. Comply with the mountain topography: the main axis of the Confucius Academy is located in the southwest and faces the northeast. There is Wenwen Mountain in front, Huaxi River below, Dajian Mountain in the back, and mountains and rivers. This is the natural landscape trend. It did not follow the principle of sitting south and facing north in the plain area.

4. Bold innovation and unique style: Taking the Han and Tang styles as architectural features, it changed the Ming and Qing styles mainly used in Confucius temples in various places, mainly reflecting the visual grandeur and the cultural atmosphere of the Confucius era.

As early as 2010, Liu Zhaofeng had successfully bid and obtained the design rights for the Confucius and Mencius cultural heritage protection projects in Qufu and Zoucheng with World Bank loans, and the cultural heritage of Confucius Temple, Confucius Mansion and Confucius Forest Very knowledgeable about architectural styles. In 2011, Liu Zhaofeng was invited to participate in the competition for the design of the Confucian School in Guiyang. After repeated deliberation, Liu Zhaofeng and his team finally came up with the overall concept and plan. Although this design plan only won second place in the competition due to a difference of one vote, Liu Zhaofeng and his team finally won the design right of Kong Xuetang because it was more in line with and closer to Guiyang City’s requirements for this project.

“The final implemented design plan is already the ninth revised draft.” Liu Zhaofeng said that his design concept is “Han and Tang Dynasty style, modern expression”, using architecture to highlight humanistic spiritual culture.

According to Liu Zhaofeng, the architectural design of the Confucius Academy is based on the Han and Tang styles. It changes from the Ming and Qing styles that are mainly used in Confucius temples in various places, and mainly reflects the grandeur of Chinese culture. The innovative layout based on the traditional Chinese tic-tac-toe layout has a "three-axis cross-linking" trend of one vertical and two horizontal.

The vertical axis is the "ritual axis", which runs from northwest to southeast, symbolizing the core ideas of Confucianism "ritual" and "benevolence". It starts from Lingxing Gate, passes through Dacheng Gate, Liturgical Square, and Dacheng Gate. The palace ends at the apricot altar. There is a statue of Confucius teaching in the square in front of Dacheng Gate, 9.28 meters high, to commemorate the birthday of Confucius; Dacheng Hall is the core of the Confucius Academy and the central place for worshiping Confucius.

The two horizontal axes, namely the "wind axis" and the "line axis", are both horizontal from northeast to southwest. The "wind axis" symbolizes the Confucian practice of "governing the country and bringing peace to the world". On the left side of the axis are the lecture halls and Xishan Academy, which will be the main area for future conference discussions and scholar lectures. The "Xingxian" symbolizes the wisdom and practice of Confucianism. There are buildings on the axis such as Xiangxian Temple, Yangming Temple, Kuiwen Pavilion and so on. Xiangxian Temple is dedicated to the sages and celebrities of Guizhou's past dynasties, Yangming Temple is dedicated to the great Confucian Wang Yangming of the Ming Dynasty, Kuiwen Pavilion Collection of Confucian cultural classics.
