Gourdain remained in Medivh's mind when he died. As a result, he fell into a state of catatonia. When he woke up, Ogram Doomsday Hammer had killed the black hand, destroyed the shadow parliament and consolidated his power. When his wizards died or were about to be executed, Gourdain quickly tried to convince the Hammer of Destruction to prove his worth in order to save his life. He promised to provide him with a large number of undead knights. He finally found the body of the knight Azeroth who was killed in the first war, and used their magical energy to instill the spirit of the shadow parliament into these death knights by killing all his magicians.
