Brief introduction of Linggu Temple

Linggu Temple, formerly known as Kaichan Temple, Kaishan Dojo, Baogongyuan, Taiping xingguo temple and Jiangshan Temple, is located in Guling Scenic Area about one kilometer east of Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in Xuanwu District, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.

The predecessor of Linggu Temple, Kaichan Temple, was built in South Tian Liang Prison for fourteen years. In the 14th year of Ming Hongwu, it was relocated and named Linggu Temple, with an initial area of 500 mu. Linggu Temple has buildings such as Zhaobi, Shanmen, Qian Dian, Daxiong Hall, Guanyin Pavilion and Xuanzang Courtyard. Part of the top valley dedicated to Master Xuanzang is enshrined in the temple, which is the core attraction of Guling Scenic Area in Zhongshan Scenic Area.

1On April 9, 982, Nanjing Linggu Temple was listed as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit by Jiangsu Province. 1On April 9th, 983, Nanjing Linggu Temple was designated as a key Buddhist temple in the Han nationality area of China by the State Council. On June 25th, 20001year, Wuliang Temple was listed as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council, and there was a huge wall outside the temple gate.

1, mountain gate

The gate of Linggu Temple is called Shanmen. It is called Shanmen because the temple is in the mountainous area. There are three mountain gates in Linggu Temple, symbolizing three methods of eliminating gates, namely, empty gate, non-phase gate and reactive gate. The lintel of the main entrance of Linggu Temple has the words Linggu Temple inscribed by Yu Youren.

2. Qian Dian

The front hall of Linggu Temple, also known as Maitreya Hall and Tianwang Hall, contains six statues, with Maitreya in the middle, and Wei Tuo behind Maitreya facing the mountain gate and Daxiong Hall. There are two back-to-back halls, with the middle partition and four heavenly kings on both sides of the hall.

3. Daxiong Hall

The main hall of Linggu Temple, that is, the Ursa Major Hall, is the center of the whole temple. The main god in the temple is Sakyamuni, surrounded by two disciples, Ye Jia and Ananda. There are eighteen arhats and twenty golden celestial statues on the east and west walls of Ursa major, which are divided into two floors: the upper arhats, the lower celestial statues, the north wall of Ursa major, Guanyin in the east, the Earth King in the west, and the East and West halls of Ursa major, the Ancestral Hall and the Garan Hall.
