Most petals can transmit light. Backlighting can not only highlight the texture of petals, but also see through the overlap between petals, making flowers more layered. Flowers are as bright as gauze in the backlight, which makes the picture feel air, so I especially like to shoot flowers in the backlight.

In fact, it is not too difficult to shoot a backlit light with a sense of transparency. First of all, of course, we should choose the position of backlight, such as putting flowers by the window and adding a flash light indoors, such as DF800. The stronger the light source, the more prominent the sense of transparency and layering.

Put it by the window and shoot against the light, the narcissus is full of transparency and the picture effect is unique.

But in order to make the picture brighter, I will raise the EV (exposure compensation) slightly by one or two levels as needed, or raise the curve a little during post-production. In addition, reducing the contrast can also avoid the exposure problem.

However, not all flowers are suitable for backlighting. For example, if the petals are too thick or too dark, it is difficult to highlight their transparency under backlight. At this time, it is more appropriate to use side light to enhance the three-dimensional sense.
