What is the media?

Self-media, also known as "citizen media" or "personal media", refers to a privatized, popular and autonomous new media that delivers normative and non-normative information to an unspecified majority or specific individuals through modern and electronic means. Self-media platforms include: blog, Weibo, WeChat, Baidu official post bar, forum /BBS and other online communities.

Media platforms include but are not limited to personal Weibo, personal blog and personal homepage, among which the most representative hosting platforms are Facebook and Twitter in the United States, QQ space in China, Sina Weibo, Tencent Weibo, WeChat circle of friends, WeChat public platform, Renren.com and Baidu Post Bar.

There are also many technology blogs (mainly news and information websites based on the Internet and technology), some of which are born out of portals; Some are made by traditional media people; Some are born out of traditional media, but because of the limitations of the team, their characteristics are not clear.

Self-media can be divided into generalized self-media and narrow self-media. The generalized self-media can be traced back to the end of last century. At that time, personal homepage and BBS album can be called self-media, followed by blog and Weibo. Self-media in a narrow sense can be marked by the official WeChat account, plus Baidu Baijia, Sohu, Netease, Tencent and other self-media writing platforms.
