Read the whole poem and talk about the meaning of the image of the damaged palm.

The image of the damaged palm refers to China in dire straits.

When the author Dai Wangshu wrote this poem, he was imprisoned in prison by the Japanese invaders and tortured. The author used his scarred palms to think of the scarred China under the iron heel of the Japanese invaders.

The author uses the idea of ??"palm" to express the poet's thoughts when he caressed the land of the motherland with his "broken palm", reproducing in his imagination his hometown, Changbai Mountain, the Yellow River, Jiangnan, Lingnan and the undiscovered places. The scenes in the liberated areas that he had personally experienced showed the interaction of his inner emotions with the feeling of his palms. The poet first felt sad and angry, but then turned to eager expectations, placing hopes for national rejuvenation in the liberated areas.

Original text of the work

I use damaged palms

I use damaged palms

Exploring this vast land:

This corner has turned into ashes,

That corner is just blood and mud;

This lake should be my hometown,

(In spring, the flowers on the embankment are like brocade curtains,

The young willow branches have a strange fragrance when they are broken,)

I touched the water and the water. Cold;

The snow-capped peaks of Changbai Mountain are so cold that they are bone-chilling,

The water of the Yellow River with mud and sand slips out between your fingers;

The paddy fields in the south of the Yangtze River, you The newly born grass

was so thin and soft...now there is only basil;

The lychee flowers in Lingnan are lonely and haggard,

over there, I dipped in the bitter water of the South China Sea without fishing boats...

The invisible palm swept across the infinite mountains and rivers,

The fingers were stained with blood and ashes, and the palm was stained with darkness,

< p>Only that far away corner is still complete,

Warm, clear, solid and vigorous in spring.

On it, I caress it gently with my damaged palm,

Like the soft hair of a lover, the milk in a baby's hand.

I put all my strength in the palm of my hand

Put it on it, sending love and all hope,

Because only there is the sun and spring,

p>

It will drive away the darkness and bring revival,

Because only there we will not live like animals,

die like ants...

There, the eternal China!

Writing background

In 1939, when the Japanese invasion of China was escalating, Dai Wangshu and his family went to Hong Kong to serve as the supplement editor of "Sing Tao Daily". In 1941, the British authorities in Hong Kong surrendered to Japan. In the spring of 1942, Dai Wangshu was arrested and imprisoned by the Japanese invaders for publishing poems in newspapers to promote the Anti-Japanese War. He suffered various tortures, but he did not give in.

By the time Ye Lingfeng managed to be released on bail in May 1942, his body had been tortured to an extremely weak state, and his asthma remained, which eventually led to his premature death. "My Broken Palm" was written shortly after he was released from prison.
